Oh yeah, sure. McConnell will be civil and do just as he did when Scalia died, postpone until after the next election. Is there any way that Dems can grind the Senate to a complete halt until January?
Unless I see Collins (D), Flake (D), McCain (D), or Corker (D) show up I am not going to get too excited by any names on this list
This horse left the barn on November 8, 2016 when the country elected trump. There is no way in hell that Mitch McConnell applies the same “principles” he insisted on re: supreme court seats in 2016. Elections have consequences that far out last the 2 year election cycle. Welcome to your new country America…hope you recognize it by 2020.
“The Garland delay was completely different because Barack Obama was only elected to three fifths of a presidency.”----Mitch McConnell.
So much for Klobuchar 2020…if that was ever a thing.
No offense, but this exercise is completely pointless.
McConnell will get the seat filled before the election and only a mass action to shut down D.C. has any chance of changing that.
McConnell has already said he will fill the seat in the fall so any appeal for him to follow any rule ever is a waste of breath.
None of the moderate Republicans will do anything to stop it either.
When will the Democratic party stop playing Charlie Brown to the GOP’s Lucy?
Asking the GOP to play fair should be about as effective as asking a snake not to bite you.
If these Dems hadn’t come forward with a statement urging the Rs to slow down, the party as a whole would be condemned for not coming forward with a statement. Sure as shit, this bunch would have unloaded on them for not speaking up. The GOP has all the power, so what’s the analogy to cartoon characters. The Dems are trying to speak to the better angels of those who hold the power. It’s not their fault if the opposition won’t listen. It’s on Democratic voters who didn’t come out for HRC in 2016 that we have the mess in the first place. It was avoidable.
We’re more likely to see Trump admit to treason.
What is the Guiness record for largest and longest gale of laughter in history…it is in danger right now…
Wouldn’t an open seat just give evangelical heathens more reason to cream their jeans while voting for candidates uninterested in human decency?
Here’s another one for the list. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) made the following statement in a USA Today article:
Sen. Mazie Hirono of Hawaii, the senior Democrat on the judiciary panel’s constitution subcommittee, said she expects Trump’s nominee to be “intent on carrying out the right-wing ideology of the president and his most extreme supporters.”
“Donald Trump has vowed that the Supreme Court should always remain Republican,” she said. “The Supreme Court should be above politics, qualified, and exercise fair and independent judgment. Should there be hearings, I will exercise my Constitutional duty to determine whether any nominee appointed will respect the law, the Constitution, and American values.”
Here’s the link:
Schumer better show his stuff. Harry Reid would do something dramatic and all of us should be calling Schumer’s office and demanding he shut down business over this hypocrisy of “not nominating a SC justice in an election year.”
I’d rather visualize that bison goring you with his horns than to visualize heathens creaming jeans.
And so the President should take the time as necessary and it will be more than a month or two to nominate someone who is open-minded and fair, a jurist who has a track record in the mold of Justice Kennedy.
This sort of delusional rhetoric grants Trump’s decision making aims an air of consideration and legitimacy it doesn’t deserve. Pretending that Trump cares about nominating someone who is “open-minded and fair” is quite frankly dishonest and a disservice to voters, better to say nothing at all then to spread this sort of disinformation.

The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. #Kennedy
Dick Blumenthal changed his position, I think, from what Josh has. This is on FB as I write.
On the retirement announcement of Justice Anthony Kennedy: The American people should have a voice. A confirmation vote should take place after a new Congress is seated. My Republican colleagues should follow their own precedent. A decision of this historic magnitude requires more deliberate consideration than is possible in the politically charged months between now and the election.
The list needs to be updated.
Yea enough of the blame game here, politics is nasty as hell. Want to win? Vote!
I can’t imagine there won’t be a majority of sitting Dems on the final list. DINOs of course won’t endorse this idea. Imagine a few safe-seat Rs signing up. You may say I’m a dreamer, etc.
