and now a message from the “league leader”
I don’t have a problem with any of the comments citing the McConnel Rule, I do object to the one Senator who tried to argue for delay on the grounds Trump needs time to make a considered decision because pretending Trump cares about a considered decision normalizes Trump and goes against the message that Trump and what he is doing to this nation aren’t normal. If the Senator felt the need to say something he could have followed the example his coleagues laid out in any of the much better phrased tweets that appeared in this article.
I have a good feeling we’re going to see huge D turnout, and from places we’re not really talking about yet, for one, the students and families from Parkland FL and from Muslim and Latinos who couldn’t imagine this fellow citizens as represented by the R party turning on them so viciously.
Also I’d like to see Muslims who are in the military resign as soon as their tour is up, enlisted and officers. How’s the occupant going to wage his future wars without enough of the unAmerican troops who currently serve.
The Senate is guided by comity and politeness and all the correct wording, and they should ditch it ASAP.
Edit: Actual ignore this I misread your “should” as “shouldn’t” my apologies.
Pretending Trump cares about nominating someone “open-minded and fair” isn’t a matter of comity and even if it was we passed the point where Democrats would be breaking comity “ASAP” by bluntly speaking the truth almost two years ago when McConnel stole a Supreme Court seat and killed any effort by President Obama and the Dem leadership to inform the American people of a hostile foreign powers attack on our electoral system.
Question from a paranoid. Supposedly Mueller will follow DOJ guidelines which specify no reporting of results of investigations 90 days before an election. Does anyone know if the GOP could confirm and seat a new justice in time to fast track a decision on ending the Mueller investigation and sealing the report within that time frame ?
Bottom line: Who cares what any of them say? Absent at least 2 Republicans, it’s meaningless.
Wouldn’t it just fry everyone’s onions if Merrick were nominated here?
I know, I know - the 'shrooms for lunch today weren’t nearly strong enough. LOL!!!

Oh, I took that to mean the new nominee will get as much consideration - I read that as NONE, since Garland never saw the inside of a committee room for a hearing.
I do not know how fast it could happen, but my first thought on Kennedy’s retirement was that this put Mueller at greater risk. I have no doubt that Trump will fire him post-November especially if he hasn’t reported yet and Republicans hang on to both chambers. Something from the chaos that ensues could end up in the courts.
Do you have any leftovers?
The major problem with the “no hearing until after the election” statements is that most of them essentially endorse the “McConnell rule”. It’s a totally crap rule that no one should be endorsing or otherwise reifying.
Telling Republicans, “you made your bed, now lie in it” while also pointing out the bed they made is a complete piece of shit – that’s good strategy. Endorsing a shitty ‘rule’ is not.
Hey, don’t offend snakes. They bite only when they are scared. GOPers bite because they like it.
