Anyone else noticing a pattern here? If the Act or legislation has “A’s” and “C’s” in it’s name Congress gets stymied. I call it discrimination.
Congress has had seven months since Obama left office to do something about it. They’ve shown no inclination to do so. Not just no final bill, no committee hearings, no proposals, no nothing. What makes you think they will do anything now, when the Republican base has been mainlining anti-immigrant hate for over two years?
Never gamble more than you can stand to loose.
The trouble here is 6mos is not NEARLY enough time for this wildly disfunctional congress/senate/administration to get anything done.
As for insults? Please. There is no insult, no eye roll, no subterfuge, no blatant lie that could possibly begin to hold a candle to the mind blowing filth the GOP has heaped upon themselves this past year.
They sure won’t get it done with a Republicans only bill.
Do you like that Lindsey Graham?
I do not like them Sam-I-Am
I do not like that Lindsey Graham.
Would you like him here or there?
I would not like him here or there
I would not like him anywhere.
I do not like that Lindsey Graham.
This all makes sense, for as we know, Trump abhors accomplishing anything via Executive Order.
Trump is setting the GOP up for not repealing the aca. He knows they will never get anything passed in 6 months and when these kids start getting kicked out he will put it all on the GOP.
I have the same question?? What is this “bipartisan” bill he has introduced?
Mealy-mouth Lindsey grandstands again. He knows better than anyone that his poor excuse for a political party can’t come up with a solution. He just doesn’t want to be personally held responsible. He, like many Republicans, takes no responsibility for Trump’s actions, or for the feelings of the racist, “MAGA” base. Republicans. The Party of Irresponsibility. Soon to Default on the Finances of a Country Near You. Apocalypse Fever - Catch It!
They’ll all be made to wear bright red sombrero patches, regardless of ethnicity.
Republican consultant Rick Wilson, who famously coined ETTD*, predicts that ending DACA would be the death blow to the Rethugliklan party.
He compares it to Prop. 187 in California, a 1994 ballot initiative to establish a state-run citizenship screening system and prohibit illegal aliens from using non-emergency health care, public education, and other services, which, at the time, passed thanks to overwhelming GOP support.
The proposition’s ultimate effect, however, was to so disgust Californians that the Rethugliklan party ended losing most of its support in the state, turning the California GOP into a permanent minority. (Couldn’t happen to a nicer group, right?) So far, this move has every indication of irreparably tearing the party apart.
Wilson’s predictions concerning the cause-and-effect of cruel, boneheaded policies by Rethugliklans has so far been 100 percent correct. I suspect he’ll be right this time too, en shallah.
*Everything Trump Touches Dies.
No Ted Cruz reference?
In the spirit of ‘Dreamers’ -
‘The United States of California’!!
I have always believed DACA was a presidential overreach.
And in the 5 years the GOP has had a majority in the Senate what legislative solutions has Graham come up with? Only now, when upwards of a million kids and their parents are forced to go through 6 months of uncertainty and pain just so another old white man can get himself off on hating on non-whites, is Graham now thinking about doing something about that presidential “overreach”.
The entirety of the GOP needs to be removed from office.
Exactly this. It’ll either end up a Trojan Horse bill full of God-knows-what, with DACA beneficiaries as nothing more than hostages, or another GOP-led legislative catastrophe with Dreamer’s lives ruined in the end anyway.
If I could depend on Congress to do their job, which I can’t, I would agree with both Trump and Graham. Sadly, Congress can’t be trusted to actually handle immigration reform. As it is, I am afraid a lot of bad things are going to happen.
Goddamn – this is a smokescreen to cover the absolute certainty that congress will fail to do anything to protect a bunch of brown skinned illegals. The far right in congress won’t allow anything good to happen. They will bicker away the time for six months and hold a breathtaking vote the eve DACA is due to die with some sort of egregious legislation and then fail to pass it. Then they’ll shrug and trump will say its all due to democrats obstruction. Just like with healthcare. Watch.
I hope he’s right it can’t happen fast enough
Nah I think he will have the gop take the fall for this one
My parents and the remnants of my European family after Hitler came to this country around 1949. They were refugees who had waited for the US to create an additional quota for the people living in Displaced Persons camps. I am one of the first-generation natural born American children born into that extended family. My sister was born in Germany and was naturalized after my parents brought her to the United States as a two-year-old.
My sister did not come into this country speaking English; my parents had five grades of education. She and my parents were anything but welcomed into the United States. They were invited, but not wanted.
In making the inviation, the country acted in spite of itself, out of a moral imperative that Harry Truman translated into action. In my family, Harry Truman and the Statue of Liberty were linked. Truman’s message to my family was that their lives as refugees were ending as they finally sailed for a new home. He brought order to chaotic lives. He brought comfort to people afraid of the future without a country.
In 2017, we have the obverse. The virtual opposite of Harry Truman is Donald Trump. Where Truman was levelheaded, Trump is mentally sick. Where Truman was practical, the only explanations for the actions of Donald Trump are medical and psychiatric ones… Harry Truman was a mensch; Trump is a monster. Where Truman demonstrated generosity, it is the purpose of Donald Trump to deprive.
This is Trump’s rejoinder to Truman’s generosity. Trump is perverse. He proposes to send people back who are already here. He dashes hopes that
we, as a country created and provides them the prospect of statelessness.
We should be prepared to be judged by our allies. We should be prepared for offers from other countries to rescue the refugees Trump proposes to create.
Above all, we must be prepared to act. The right will have no reason to complain about radicalization of the anti-Fascist left. They will have no reason to complain about the results of threatening to leave almost a million people with nothing to lose.
Graham should shut his mouth, once and for all.
He doesn’t like pomp and circumstance or adoring fans, either.
