Discussion: Lawmakers On Both Sides Of Aisle Unhappy With Obama Leadership

Discussion for article #225588

TPM once again shows its anti-Obama bias. Do you really need to put up every AP story that comes across the wire?

Hmmmm. Would these democrats be from red states? Manchin and the like?

Unfuckingbelievable that for six years the idiotic republicans have refused to work with the president–even rejecting their own ideas in lieu of destroying ANY legislative reforms Obama might get. Are these supposed dems totally clueless about what is going on—or are they just useful idiots? The republican congress refuses to work with the black man. Could it be made any plainer for them?

GOP congressmen on the record… Dems off. Yeah, I’m sure that’s a balanced reflection of the Dems’ opinion of the President.

AP blather. Although it is more the kind of clickbait you’d expect on HuffPo.

“Several Democratic lawmakers echoed McConnell but spoke on condition of anonymity to avoid alienating the president of their party.”

Interesting…people that sound as though they are and have been “alienated” don;t want to risk being alienated from the prez…some of these anonymous pricks ought to grow a pair and become leaders in the body to which they were elected. As for the preposterous winger operatives on the right, not only did they declare they would work against Obama from day one, they demonstrated weekly, often daily, nothing was going to go well for the guy that didn’t look like them. There is a long list of initiatives proposed by the POTUS that were accomplished due to his leadership. There is a minuscule list of items achieved by the Congress over the same period Obama can’t be the divine dictator pissing off the DC peeps and hapless do nothing the AP is humping today. There is a disconnect here that even the likes of McConnell must surely fully understand.

Obama should give Congress a full Moon shot…

Sounds like Congress wants the president to do its job for it as well as running the executive branch.

Remind me again – what is Congress’s approval rating?

Why should the President not shun opponents? At every turn they have actively worked to deny him even a modicum of respect. And as far as rewarding allies, someone needs to remind these guys you don’t get rewards for doing your job.

I agree with you Zoran. I can see the point of this article. But Obama got burned badly in 2011 over the debt deal. Articles goes on to say Obama told Reid and McConnell to handle the border legislation. Anytime Obama gets involved the House GOP says no. So why would he directly get involved? They wouldn’t even give Obama the support for strikes on Syria. Which would have been leverage. Then Putin steps in and the GOP calls Obama weak. when you don’t stand behind the President regardless of party affiliation over certain issues like foreign policy. The Presidency and America is weakened.

Here a thought; how about just do your job congress. You just shouldn’t need special hand holding to do what you were elected and paid to do…That’s all, nothing more, nothing less!

Ignoring it won’t make it go away and makes it more difficult for people like us to respond to it.

Does anyone really think that Congress is going to suddenly become amenable to a request by Obama because he asks nicely? Or because they can sit down over drinks and share a cigar? This nonsensical idea is in the same category as the attitude that thinks that Vladimir Putin will suddenly become more compliant if we rattle sabers at him, and jump around talking tough.

Putin (and Congress) are going to do what they perceive to be in their own best interest. Talk is cheap, and worthless, in actually persuading the opposition to do anything that they don’t think will gain them votes or move their own agenda forward. Leverage is what counts, not talk.

Maybe they got the Dem quotes third-hand from BuzzFeed.

So, obama does what he can with no help from congress and does speeches basically embarrassing the unembarrassed into some kind of action. In return he gets lawsuits, impeachment b.s. and a bunch of knives thrown into his back. Now we are to believe that the dems are also following the pathetic taxpayer funded gop into there ideological black hole. Makes me want to ask, who is really holding the knives and pulling the puppets strings?
I get to vote august 7th. It’s a start locally I hope to get rid of this states red disease. 1 out of 100 might make it to the voting booth. Got better things to do like, drugs, drink, crime and shoot guns at nothing most of the time while watching outfox ya news.
