Discussion for article #240948
"Bunning on Wednesday dismissed Davisā arguments that she is likely to suffer irreparable harm by having to issue the licenses.
āThis argument is unpersuasive because Davis has created her own risk of harm by violating a valid order issued by this court," Bunning wrote, adding: "As for the public interest, the court simply notes that the public has an interest in the enforcement of valid court orders.ā"
Yes, but what about Kim Davisās God-given(ā¢) right to deprive other citizens of their Constitutional rights?
āIf I canāt bully you, Iām the one who suffersā
The judge made a deal with her as a condition of allowing her to leave jail. Her side of the deal was to not interfere in the issuing of valid, legitimate marriage licenses. She didnāt hold up her end of the deal. No more bargains with this Christian Sharia zealot. Either she does her job to the letter of the law or she can resignāno other options. Sick and tired of these misguided religious fanatics desperate for martyrdom if they canāt use a government position to foist their extreme views on other people. Itās flat out ridiculous.
No, thereās another option. She can sit in jail for contempt of court.
Thatās exactly what she wants. Martyrdom. To be a media celebrity for all the unjust suffering she is being forced to endure. Iām sure she equates her night in the slammer with the Passion of the Christ.
Imagine that, having to follow the law ā¦ what is this Russia???
Just do your job or go away, the circus is over.
Ms. Davis gets what she wants, and the people who want marriage licenses get what they want. Itās nice when everyone wins!
Contempt of court?
Seems ripe and overripe. Look, she has no intention whatever of complying. That is overt contempt, in the legal sense. Even if Jesus came down and did some blow with her or whatever. No difference.
Toss her into Gen Pop for a week or two. Her morality will suddenly, miraculously, be altered.
I just realized that the federal judge is the son of rightwing nut job senator (and former baseball pitcher) Jim Bunning, nominating by W and confirmed by the Senate even ABA rated him āunqualified.ā From Wikipedia): ādue to his age of 35, a lack of complex civil case experience as a federal attorney, and his āmiddle-of-the-class law schoolā experience at the University of Kentucky.ā
And even heās not on her side.
Well, sheās refusing to resign because she somehow believes that people are actually listening to her and turning against same-sex marriage. Never mind the fact that her crusade is having the opposite effect.
The judge should throw her fat ass and Liberty Counsel all in jail!
Iāll bet that if the judge had kept her in jail for another few days the media would have packed up and gone on to another flavor of the moment non story. Her ācounselā. Iād also bet, would not have been far behind. Lost opportunity. However it appears that both Kimmie and her Lawyers have given the judge a mulligan, he should play it.
Issuing a marriage license is reporting that the couple involved meet the state requirements for a marriage. Not that God agrees or disagrees with the requirements the state has set forth. No one is speaking for God. God is held by most to be entirely capable of speaking for himself.
The appeals court denied the request last week on the legal technicality that her lawyers did not first ask the district judge for a delay, as federal court rules require.
Another example of incompetent lawyering on the part of Mat Staver. Court rules are not mere technicalities and this result was completely foreseeable.
If heās just trying to stretch out her time in the limelight, this motion should be censurable under Rule 11 for vexatious and frivolous pleadings.
I thought her āgodā abhored arroganceā¦ its pretty arrogant to presume to actually speak for āgodāā¦
Hey voters of KY, this religious fundamentalist fool is doing nothing but wasting YOUR tax dollars!
Isnāt it about time that she gets recalled?
The abiding lesson of Jesus Christ is we should love one another. Itās really that simple. And no matter how Mrs. Davis spins this, this is not love.
Actually, after a month or so in jail, Kim Davis would be largely forgotten by the public at large, rendering her would-be martyrdom moot and irrelevant.
Iām OK with that.
