Krugman has a column today about how the grift and corruption of the GOP has led to Trump’s success as a candidate there.
A fine speech. I’m doubtful anyone inclined to be aware of and influenced by Ken Burns was ever that gaga about Trump in the first place, but a fine speech regardless. If it makes people knock on doors or dig deeper in their pockets for Hillary that’d be nice.
A full throated, take-down of the repulsive charlatan…now, count 1,2,3 to see masses of his tribe, snap into their Tourette’s stupor.
Nailed it on every level ----
Thanks Ken ! —
‘Vichy Republicans’
Wow, best thing I’ve read regarding Trump’s evil that wasn’t a blog comment. Nice to know someone in the elite order isn’t dozing at a 5 star restaurant…
When historians see what’s coming and dare to call out a demagogue, you know Trump isn’t any fluke. Make sure everyone you know is registered and votes. We don’t need anymore problems than the world is already facing.
Thanks for the heads up on the article. I’ve said all along that corruption is the major problem in this country. The GOP completely caved into it. Their greed for overwhelming profits and power has effected the whole planet in some really bad ways.
Wondering how many parents were squirming in their seats? Stanford is pretty conservative country, for California. Three cheers for Ken Burns!
Mr. Burns is a respected historian and someone who has enhanced our understanding of American history. He recognizes in Trump a embodiment of the worst impulses present in a democracy. The sense that the “other”, the immingrant, the unusual, the minority, is distorting the culture by being different. At our best we Americans, not always easily, but eventually realize we are strengthened by our diversity and that is what make us unique in a world divided by race, religion and ethnic hate.
Sadly this fine address will fall on the deaf ears of his supporters and the leaders of the Republican Party.
Thanks for the link. He’s always on target.
As Bertold Brecht wrote, “The world rose up to beat the bastard once, but the bitch that bore him is in heat again.”
Welcome to the revolution, Ken.
An insult to our history? The country that kept slaves, committed genocide on the native population abused Chinese and other immigrant workers, had laws enforcing bigotry. Seriously Ken? Our history is a horror story from certain perspectives and look at us now…owned and controlled by corporation with lawmakers that serve them. Give me a break, Ken.
You go Ken. This is what everyone with any influence needs to say and do
True but the more people speak out the better. We are not trying to influence his followers, but those who don’t know enough about Trump because they don’t pay attention or who might not even consider voting,
Do not be deceived by his momentary “good behavior.”
Trump exhibited a moment of good behavior? I think I missed that.
But in all seriousness, it was a good speech.
Quite so and one thing the moment requires is an unprecedented wave of revulsion and protest at the vileness and stupidity. But I do think Ken and his fans are kind of a closed system.
I think it lasted all of a couple of hours…
Bravo, Mr. Burns! The most salient point I take away is that all this has happened before. We must remain vigilant and ensure that Trump never gets any closer to the White House than a guest tour (I’d like to withhold that too). He is dangerous, unbalanced and impetuous. Just the qualities we don’t need in a Chief Executive. He’s a liar, a bigot and possibly mentally defective. Why on earth would anyone support him? I know, lies and deception…another old story.
