This was a legal no-brainer. Why did it take six years to strike it down?

In a decade or so this will be an almost moot point, because we’ll all be introduced to Soylent Green. ; - )

No, this is the job that makes you smile!

Exactly. If it were anti-Second Amendment it would have been struck down in 6 hours.

I know speech and debate and all, but some laws really do deserve sanctions for the people who pass them.

Iowa pig farmers will continue to properly care for their animals and provide safe and secure working conditions for their employees.

But don’t hold us to that.

To keep it simple, Iowa pig farmers will provide one set of living quarters and standards for both groups.

Good! It shouldn’t have taken six years.

“Iowa pig farmers will continue to properly care for their animals and provide safe and secure working conditions for their employees. And, they will fight those who try to destroy or attack their livelihoods one case at a time,” the organization said in a statement.

Oh, yeh? Good luck with that.

Farmers can still attempt to silence employees with non-disclosure agreements, just like all the tech companies do. The important difference is that ag-gag laws make this crap a criminal offense, while breaking an NDA isn’t criminal; it’s just a civil contract violation and the aggrieved party has to “want theirs” badly enough to sue you.

Off-topic (kinda):
Most of you probably don’t know this, but with hogs, it’s the rare hog “farmer” nowadays who operates independently and takes animals “from farrow to finish” (birth to market weight). Most hog producers are effectively single-stage vassals of big companies like Cargill: this one does nothing but breeding and farrowing, then ships off the weeners (so-called because they’re weened. Get it? These hog people have to keep a sense of humor somehow). The next guy’s operation gets weeners from other producers in the Cargill supply chain, and raises them to the next stage. And so on. At every stage, the farmer holds the risk, and Cargill holds the stick. Eventually, Porky Pig makes his way to a slaughterhouse in Steve King’s district in northwest Iowa, staffed, as you may suspect, by the very same brown people old Steve has made his political fortune shitting on. In the end, you and I have the glorious opportunity to support this dystopic nightmare by buying pork chops and hot links at the local (corporate mega-chain) grocery store.

One of many reasons to avoid eating meat in the first place, but if you must, find a local small scale producer that uses best ethical practices to care for the animals.
