Discussion: Joni Ernst Aide Quit Campaign After Drunk Driving Arrest

Discussion for article #229915

“…just days before the election…”

Hidden dirty laundry from the candidate whose campaign strategy was to hide the truth.

It sounds like this person has a problem, but not working for Joni Ernst any more is a sound first step on the road to recovery.

Sure would have been nice if Luke Russet had done some real investigative reporting instead of kissing Republican ass.

While I agree that Luke Russert completely sucks, I’m not sure what some aide getting arrested for drunk driving has to do with anything. Is there really the idea out there that this “news” would’ve made any kind of difference? Quite confusing to me.

Poor Gretchen. Maybe she could rehab at the Palins. I hope there’s a reporter working this.

Luke Russert is a parrot, incapable of independent thought or analysis. The attempt at deference to his political “expertise” by those at MSNBC is nauseating. If nepotism weren’t involved, he’d be “living in a van down by the river.”

I agree. What the aide does really shouldn’t have affected her efforts to win the seat. Her extremism and avoidance of answering policy questions should have, but didn’t.

No surprised. Joni Ernst would drive anyone to drink. Joni Ernst would drive anyone to lie.

Their local media coronated this insane woman from the get go, and of course our right wing national media could not get enough of her. None of her really extreme BS was ever really reported on much at all, but now dear Iowa, you will be asked again and again what the hell is wrong with you people, after what is predicted about this woman, that she will be the female version of Ted Cruz, with word salad BS that makes people’s heads spin becomes more evident. The Senate is now going to be as batshit crazy as the House is, and as if the House were not already bad enough, they added a few more Gohmert types just to make it even more batshit crazy.

I agree too, however we all know that if she were a Dem, and this happened with their aide, that the right would have made it a huge campaign issue, and the media would have made it their new scandal.

Along the lines of my first thought, too. Of course she has a drinking problem…have you met her boss???

Her crazy BS was reported on, it was just met with a collective sigh of antipathy and another article written up by her campaign about how she is a bigger military hero than Patton could have dreamed of being.

I did keep an eye on this way from early on, and I have to admit, he campaign was deeply embedded with the press corps, and it paid off handsomely. Nothing she said or did could ever break through, but the tiniest miscue by Braley instantly got wall to wall coverage.

That being said, Braley got behind the 8 ball early, and was completely unable to find a strategy to get in front of her.

Depends. Normally, I would say not only that it shouldn’t matter, but that most voters could care less.

However, this woman has a history of driving problems, and going slightly out on a limb, probably a drinking issue too. Was she receiving preferential treatment in her early incident, just until they could toss her off the bus at a more convenient time? Is there is a story down that path, then yeah, I could see that having an impact (though just a few days before the election, not much of one).

And somehow they would have connected it all to the president’s “failed leadership.” Or at least, the press would have allowed McConnell, Boehner, Cruz, McCain and Graham to do that uninterrupted and unchallenged.

Yeah it was barely reported on, even on MSNBC, while they also used that “new shining star of the GOP” crap over and over again. I too paid close attention to this entire campaign, not just hers but the entire sad affair, and the so called liberal MSNBC from start to finish sounded little different from the rest of the right wing media.

They have taken to spewing every Fox fake scandal over and over again against this President, yes not at the batshit crazy level of Fox, but enough day after day to make them just as guilty of fanning the flames of those faux scandals against this President. Since the election, I have refused to watch them either, so they can count another lost viewer in their ratings.

The rest of the country will go on a similar bender after having listened to this cackling Cruella DeVille.

Within months the country will be saying, “Make it stop!”

Means nothing at this point.unless it was Ms Ernst the damage is done.

“Hamel also committed another bizarre driving offense the night of Oct. 13, according to the newspaper.”

The fact this was never jumped on by the press seems to be pretty good evidence that the Iowa media, in general, was running interference for Joni, no doubt the courtesy extended to her campaign itself.

That is the real influence of all the CU money, they are really just paying off the oldsream media to give their candidates an easy path to victory. They ignored some very pertinent facts and crazy comments about and by Ernst, even as they pummeled Braley for his truly insignificant but politically careless “farmer” gaffe.

Anyone who can’t see that this is the real reason Citizens United influences elections, or refuses to acknowledge it, is either terribly naive or horribly complicit.

Citizens United not only paid for the process that led directly to the gerrymandering that now promises to keep our nation under the thumb of a tyrannical and puritanical minority, it has completely driven the 4th estate onto the floating blogs.

and never forget, Dems weren’t ever intende to be recipients of Citizens United benefits… even though some powerful pacs formed, the Kochs still outspent all the unions put together 5-1.
