Discussion: Joke's Over: WH Correspondents Dinner Will Feature Historian Ron Chernow

“I’m delighted that Ron will share his lively, deeply researched perspectives on American politics and history at the 2019 White House Correspondents’ Dinner,”

Unless Chernow stands at the podium and labels Trump a racist, lying sociopath I'll consider his dinner speech a resounding failure.

Shit getting real.

Well, this pretty much removes any doubt that the Trumpster won’t attend.

He may not be a comedian, but he’s a helluva historian.

It’s a far better choice than Sean In-Hannity or Roy Moore.

For Sure
He’s scared shitless of “Facts”

Maybe they can have Jim Acosta deliver the introductory remarks.

That was my first thought. Little bit passive-aggressive though. If you don’t want Trump to attend, just don’t invite him.

Ron Chernow, one of the most eminent biographers of American presidents and statesmen

His background gives him enough material to make Colbert’s takedown of Trump look tame.

Donald J. Trump is SUCH a fucking coward that he won’t allow a COMEDIAN to stand up at the podium to MAKE JOKES ABOUT HIM.

What a pathetic, infantile, spineless excuse for a Human Being.

Hey what happened to Rich Little?

My understanding was that the President enjoys a standing invitation to the event.

My first thought at seeing a historian instead of a comedian was that maybe the WHCA was hoping to de-escalate tensions between the (lying, crooked, dishonest) WH and the press.

Having read about Chernow’s background, I now suspect they’ve actually brought someone in who can explain with facts that Trump is an abomination and, as Admiral McRaven suggested, the greatest threat to this country in a half-century.

Of course but would you want that pig at one of your parties? Neither would I.

Yes, it’s an … inspired choice!

One can only hope that it’ll be raining that day …

Traditionally, yes: president and vice president.

Trump has declined both times.

I just wonder how Dotard will handle the bigly smaller crowd at his WHCA dinner?

Frankly I wouldn’t withdraw the standing invitation. I take pleasure in his chickening out every year. In fact I’d see to it there was an empty chair placed in a prominent location with his name on it.
