Ill take up that argument n ill go with the idea that a divided government, a dumb— electorate and journalists not being good referees got us Trump.
Failure to do what?
Exactly. How is “merely seeking to sow doubt about the legitimacy of the electoral process” not interference in the process?
And, if not actually colluding with Trump, they were trying to do us a favor by framing the DNC’s preference for its own (faithful, long-term, highly-favored until reported hated, non-contentious) candidate as undemocratic?
If the CIA would’ve intervened on Clinton’s behalf Mitch McConnell would’ve been screaming “banana republic” at the top of his lungs.
My head is embedded in my desk.
F’n idiot aide! Why not term the message “BOGUS” “FAKE” or “PHISHING” ?
And they were supported by “left wing” media sponsored by that Righteous Purveyor of Truth, RT America. There were several of these commentators produced by RT and posted on YouTube that people on the Left were naively posting and quoting as proof-positive that Hillary stole the primary from Bernie.
And you can make bank on McConnell’s pending Blame-The-Victim response:
“Well, if Podesta hadn’t been dressed so provocatively…”
This would never happen to Trump. When the Russians want his information, he just gives it to them.
As good as the TPM article is-- it is missing the main point, which you will see when you read the NYT article. The Russians stole the election and delivered the stolen goods – the United States government - to Trump. The biggest preventable mistake was made by Barack Obama - a man I much admire - when in a failure of nerve he decided not to go to the American people with this information in October. He should have given an Oval Office speech, calling out the Russians, detailing their goal and actions, recalling the US Ambassador from Moscow, expelling the Russian Ambassador to the US, as well as other top embassy staff, and announcing retaliatory action taken by the US. I am no psychiatrist, so I don’t want to try to figure out what was going through his mind, but it was just the worst possible decision, with the worst possible consequences for the country.
It seems the aide rewrote the events in his mind. His actual response, as shown on the NY Times, was;
This is a legitimate email. John needs to change his password immediately, and ensure that two factor authentication is turned on his account.
He can go to this link: https://myaccount.google.com/security to do both. It is absolutely imperative that this is done ASAP.
It looks like Podesta clicked on the link from the phishing email rather than going to google.com.
Every IT tech has had this exchange:
IT tech: “The Titanium package will protect us from any threat for at least 18 months.”
Dumb bastard beancounter: “Perhaps, but the Bronze is more cost-effective.”
God. It’s like that worksheet they hand out on Day One with a header instructing “Read The Entire List Before You Begin This.” And at the bottom of the long, detailed list of tasks is the direction “Now Turn Over This Page And Fold Your Hands Over It.” And watch the morons working away.
Anytime IT says immediately, you do nothing else before you change your password. Maybe Podesta can get a middle-schooler to help with tech problems on his next job.
how about DELETE THIS FUCKING EMAIL
I was born in the Truman administration, and I was the Alpha geek–practically the only geek–at work. It’s just a habit of mind.
haha! phishing, click bait, gets the best of us…True story…I fell for one that had a picture of Soleil Moon-Frye…yep, Punky Brewster…that said “See Punky Brewster after breast reduction surgery!” Totally clicked on it! I had to see it…can’t explain why…I just had too.
If there’s a digital equivalent of a sword, I suppose Tamene would have fallen on it by now.
The NYT article is very long and maybe people didn’t read most of it but at the bottom it says this, and it should scare everybody because Merkel’s in trouble right now…
What seems clear is that Russian hacking, given its success, is not going to stop. Two weeks ago, the German intelligence chief, Bruno Kahl, warned that Russia might target elections in Germany next year. “The perpetrators have an interest to delegitimize the democratic process as such,” Mr. Kahl said. Now, he added, “Europe is in the focus of these attempts of disturbance, and Germany to a particularly great extent.”
I got a sinking feeling about the election when I saw an African American guy on PBS say he was going to vote for Hillary, but then said something like “she’s pretty crooked but she’s probably not as bad as Trump.” Then there was a millennial African American women who complained that she had to choose between a “crook and a crazy man.” With tepid support like that, I wasn’t too surprised that African American voters didn’t vote for Clinton in the numbers they voted for Obama.
What was responsible for that lack of enthusiasm clearly was the media’s obsession with reading something sinister into Clinton’s use of a private email server and their constant complaints that whatever explanations Clinton offered were just not good enough for them. The coup de grace was, of course, J. Edgar Comey’s bogus accusations against Clinton eleven days before the election.
