The FBI agent in Chicago that notified the GOP they’d been hacked got off his ass and paid them a visit since, you know, a crime had been committed.
Bottom line: the FBI, under Comey, knew about it and took no affirmative action to protect our elections processes or assist in the hacking of a major candidate’s party’s systems other than making a phone call in which no proof that they were even really the FBI was provided… no showing up at the door with badges, no nothing.
Comey should be charged.

Exactly. Only police and prosecutors and juries care about what motivates actors to act since most crimes require some degree of criminal mens rea or intent. To deter an act of espionage cyber or otherwise and decide upon a commensurate retribution, a government need only confirm circumstantial proof of the act.

I don’t know how you can come to that conclusion if you read the entire New York Times article. Assange’s steady drip, drip, drip, in the final month of the campaign was designed to piss off Bernie’s supporters and depress turnout.

I think the Russian hacking did a lot of damage. At a time when the party should’ve been uniting around Clinton, the emails gave embittered Sanders supporters ammunition that somehow the primary had been stolen from their candidate and it hardened and entrenched their anger. At various points during the general election, some of the former Sanders supporters were feverishly continuing to attack Clinton and almost ignoring Pepe. I have no doubt that behavior led to many more people believing she is as bad as Pepe. Don’t underestimate the damage done by the memes and lies about Clinton that poured out of the far left. If it only influenced less than 100,000 people in just three states then it was more than enough to sway the election. I personally know about a half dozen people who didn’t vote for Clinton because of those emails.
That was months later (June 2016), and was part of an official investigation specifically on Russian hacking.

And for the record, the FBI before March had met twice with Tamane and his team. The Podesta and Rinehart emails were after that. So they were alerted to all of this by the FBI IN PERSON, and they still fell for a Mickey Mouse phishing scam. Just pathetic. In fact, if Trump’s morons had done this we’d be saying they were not fit to handle national security.
And no, before you twist my words, that does not mean I think Trump’s morons are capable of handling national security. Clearly they are not. But this is just pathetic, that’s the best description.

You need to read the whole anticle. Arguably, Obama’s failure of nerve in October brought us Trump.
Act in haste, repent in leisure. If he’d taken an extra second and read the line twice before the “click reflex” popped in, things might be different today. The same thing happens to thousands of people every day.
Just another example of people from a bygone time who have not bothered yet to fully drag themselves kicking and screaming into the 21st century. And thanks to some of their mistakes, we may feel the consequences of those mistakes into the 22nd century too.
