Discussion: Joe Biden Accidentally Announces He's 'Running'

The sad reality is we just need to win. And, the perfect is the enemy of the good here. There is no one who is perfect and very few Dems right now who can actually win the general election. If Joe can win, and I think he can, that’s fine with me. He would raise the bar above Trump by 1 million miles.

I always thought is was Hunter, not Beau. I know Hunter has been riding daddy’s coattails for a long time. Anyone else would have been kicked out the military with a dishonorable discharge for cocaine use in the service. Hunter was treated very differently.

Absolutely! I was just thinking to myself yesterday that Obama most certainly made Biden a better person. I do think he’s learned a lot about the understanding of justice and equality in this country directly from Obama. That said, too little, too late. He does have legislative experience, but not all of that is as good as everything else that’s on the menu for us to choose from. At this point, he is a Has Been full of caveats.

I have not read Warren’s op ed, but like Carson’s Carnac the Magnificent, I can divine exactly what it contains.

Delaware is sort of an internal Cayman Islands in the United States. A tiny state, it uses lax, permissive laws on corporations and especially financial type corporations (insurance, banking) to attract these entities to operate from and enrich the state, to the detriment of everyone subject to those corporations operations.

And since those corporations “based” in Delaware are powerful entities any one representing that state will find themselves obligated to promote legislation in Washington increasing the power of the powerful over the powerless. It goes with the job. All politicians from Delaware will do this. And so too Biden.

A reasonable question is whether any politician from Delaware can plausibly serve as a progressive President as they will be have spent their entire political career backing corporate and financial power over the consumer and worker and thus be deeply compromised in that way.

But would a true progressive choose credit card companies over the working class?

That one is understandable, but the fact that he campaigned for republicans last year when democrats desperately seeked to take back the house and that he couldn’t even get his family vote for Hillary in 2016 is disastrous. Can’t think of a way to explain those horrible things. But the media might give him a pass as they did for virtually all white male candidates.

I think he’s going to be shocked when he’s not greeted as a savior. He’s been in the business long enough to know how much name recognition matters at this stage.

I think this is true, but it highlights a real issue with Biden. He is old, and has old habits of speech and mind. Is he mentally nimble enough now, and in touch with what is happening in American at the grass roots level now, to deal with the harsh realities of the fascist coup attempt in America, and to build the political coalition needed to turn it back?

Would we expect a true progressive to represent Delaware at all?

It’s real cheese like Arby’s is real roast beef.
And don’t ask me what’s in Arby’s “roast beef”. I explained that in great detail while commenting at Mother Jones about 5-6 years ago.
People were not happy with me.

That’s perfect.

No Democrat in his/her right mind would be EXCITED about a Joe Biden candidacy. Democrats who haven’t yet realized that our candidate MUST BE PERCEIVED as an ANTI-ESTABLISHMENT Democrat are FORGETTING the 2016 elections wherein the vast majority of Democratic and Republican WINNERS in Blue and winnable Red states were ANTI-ESTABLISHMENT candidates! Clinton would have a better chance of uniting Democrats than Biden does…and her chances are slim and none.

It is arguable that Clinton would have won in 2016 if Sander’s supporters “enthusiastically” got out the vote for her. It is a certainty that if moderate/conservative/establishment/corporate/centrist Democrats don’t “enthusiastically” get out the vote for a lefty/progressive/democratic socialist nominee, that nominee WILL NOT DEFEAT DONALD TRUMP!

I remain concerned about Joe’s age. As someone who’s almost his age, I know that I don’t have the energy to be president. I ask myself every day what I had for breakfast this morning. The day I can’t remember, I retire. That’s not something a president can do.

Oh, and I don’t put my foot in my mouth as often as Joe does.

Obviously, he’s going to pray for the victims in NZ. Or was that for the shooter?

I think he’s expressing his religious faith in the ability of his base to keep his ass out of jail.

Biden is an accident waiting to happen. His past is full of alliances with racist senators and also a cosigner of the Hyde Amendment. He’s too old, too hands on (ask the women he’s creeped out by touching them), and I wish he’d go away. But he won’t. He’ll get some support because we’ll always remember him in connection to Obama and he’s got little more than that. But that’s just me.

In short, Trump is a disloyal coward. Spot on.
