Discussion: Jeff Flake Will Support Brett Kavanaugh

It’s the rest mass of an electron. As in, one electron.

Much as she irks me, even she found a way to not (entirely) gut the ACA and stood up for ending DADT when push came to shove.

I can’t think of a single instance when Flake didn’t crumble. Every single time.

“What I do know is that our system of justice affords a presumption of innocence to the accused, absent corroborating evidence,” Flake said.

There was plenty of evidence. Flake has NO CHANCE at any future political aspirations. He’ll get his 50 pieces of silver and walk away completely unconcerned.

I’m fascinated by nuclear stuff, and luckily, knowing very little doesn’t seem to get in the way of that.

Doesn’t work like that. They’ve reduced far too much of the country to debt servitude for anything even remotely like that to work. We allowed them to insert financial institutions into the virtuous cycle so that they wouldn’t have to pay labor enough to actually live on, just enough to service debt…while they invest in the debt products to profit off your debt servitude. People now live in debt FOR THEIR NECESSITIES, not just for discretionary spending.

Civility is what really matters, isn’t it?

This same problem is why we need so very badly to rejuvenate the Unions in America today. They could call a general strike, and make it stick. then people would join it.

Who is the “we” in that sentence? Ordinary Americans haven’t fought nearly as hard as they should have for Unions for a long time. For a variety of reasons. Now we’re back to 1923 being beaten within an inch of our lives by Pinkertons.

Why do you think these fake “moderates” keep doing this? Especially the ones who are leaving, and who supposedly despise trump? Is it to get a feathered nest when they leave? Collins must know she cannot be re-elected after this. And Flake, who is eloquent in his speeches, is evidently not just a ‘flake,’ but also a fake. What do you think?

Donnelly is a no.

Remember “Northern Exposure”? The radio guy on that who did the framing-device monologues once said his understanding of physics was “mostly metaphorical.” That’s me. I remember once in this intro to bio course I understood, like fully saw and understood, the way energy is stored and released in covalent bonds and it was psychedelic for about 5 seconds and then poof, it was gone, never to return. I think there could be multiverses but I take it on pure religious-style faith; actually understanding how it could be is no more possible for me than it is for the neighbors’ cats.

Therein is the rub. Americans are too weak and too addicted to luxury to do that kind of thing anymore. Our society is soft. We prefer to outsource these things because there’s a series on Netflix we need to binge watch, or, explain the latest theory why Dr. Strange gave Thanos the Time Stone.

I got this wrong. I really thought this nomination would flame out, as it should have, but even I forgot what both Stonewall “Psycho” Jackson and William T. Sherman independently concluded about the Civil War: the old rules would not apply at all. In fact, they recognized it would be total war. Dependence upon any norms would fail.

This has been apparent for some time now. We are in Year 2 in a new civil war, but people keep thinking in the prism of the first one, with borders, regiments, brigades and arms. This has to change immediately, but that requires something that I am not convinced we have: the guts to do it. Again, we prefer Twitter scolding and epic Facebook rants and we want to insist on following the norms of civility, lest we become like them. This, to me, is pure superstition. I have become increasingly apocalyptic in my thinking about GOPers at large: they truly are the enemy. They are the Children of Darkness.

So, do I renounce the world or get furious?

Not to go nerdy on you, but I would venture that the weight of the ABA statement would be comparable to the weight of electron neutrino… about 5,000,000 times smaller…

Completely agree. There were more than a few “unqualified” ratings that the ABA passed along to Congress on prospective judges and that didn’t phase anyone. I guess its alleged prestige is supposed to count for something but what, I don’t know.

Donnelly voting “no” makes this report very interesting:

Was there any doubt? Just like the two women will vote in goose step

One can only hope…

Flake said there wasn’t any corroborating evidence to support Dr Ford’s testimony. How convenient that He and His fellow GOPers allowed no evidence to be introduced or witnesses to be subpoenaed that would function as this evidence. I would call that rigging the system as trump is wont to say.

One thing is sure. I am a “no” vote this November for anyone who is a GOPer. Not that it makes much difference here in red state Arizona.

I thought I was deep deep deep in the dumps. I am not alone it seems.
My SO is on my case for my lack of general joy these days. I’m watching perhaps a pretty ugly cycle of history and maybe we’ll rebound. There’s going to be carnage of some variety, most likely economic, and it ain’t gonna be pretty. I’ll vote, I’ll support candidates, I’ll speak up where i think it will help.

need some time to process.

At least Donnelly is a no. Keeps the hope glimmer going at least until Collins and Murkowski finally cave

ETA - just saw the tweet suggesting the moderate 4 stick together. I will go extremely nutty happy if that comes true - maybe even two beers on a school night…
