Yeah, it’s gonna take a lot of breaking down gerrymandering to stop this.
Suggestion: When depicting Republicans, instead of using elephants, who are noble creatures, use multiple pictures of an asshole like Mussolini. This would be appropriate because not only are Republicans assholes, they are fascist assholes. It would not be right to use any other creature from the animal kingdom. Use fascists to depict fascists.
Fine. I’m in.
Good idea.
May I also suggest images of elephant orifices?
Trump was on the ballot in spirit this year. The lovely thing is that in 2020 Trump might will be on the ballot in name.
This will work in a pinch…
I’m sure and whatever - we are finally making inroads in Texas. Serious inroads. Oklahoma elected a Democrat. That is Biblical it’s such an upheaval.
We put 16 or 17 new Democrats in the state leg, we are sending a Progressive Democrat to the House and overall I couldn’t be happier. We have the momentum and goddamn it I do not want us to stop and worry about shit. That’s when we start failing. If we have many blue waves to get it back then we’ll do it. This was nothing - just wait and watch.
There are bright spots, to be sure. The real issue is that the gerrymandering of 2010 was done with computerized assistance which turned the normal process into a high tech coup. It was not just politics as usual - it was legalized robbery of the franchise. It was done so efficiently in many states that it became automatically self perpetuating and almost impossible to overcome without changing the laws to mandate redrawing of the districts.
As Democrats, our instincts urge us to play fair, and to count every vote (even those that are not for our preferred candidates). Republicans seem to enjoy cheating, even when they don’t have to. It all creates a very uneven playing field.
Fucking depressing. I hadn’t realized it was still this bad.
Christ, I hate and despise Republicans.
I hate these kinds of articles. Don’t get depressed. We just got some power back. Things are not nearly as bad as they were before the election.
Ever notice how tRump looks and acts like Mussolini when he is at one of his Brown Shirt rallies? Really, you should watch some of the old films.
OK then. The lesson is, keep hammering away. The votes are there, the structure through which the power of those votes can be expressed still needs to be built (or rather, re-built). But it’s coming.
Which is why we’re going to have to find our remedy in the courts if McConnell hasn’t sufficiently skewed those to his liking by now.
It was also done after the conservos ginned up their Tea Party wave. You have to give them credit, they’re not stupid, they’re venal, and they followed every step of Russia’s Fake News game:
- Find the Cracks
- The Big Lie
- A Kernel of Truth
- Conceal your Hand
- The Useful Idiot
- Deny Everything
- The Long Game, which happens to be the title of Mitch McConnell’s book.
And why did this happen? Because our side sat on their butts in 2010.
Come on now, we can do better than THAT.
We need to make republicans wear Trump as an albatross around their necks from THIS DAY FORWARD–no matter who is sitting in the big chair.
The name Trump should be ascribed to every one of these republicans AND the use of the word should be an epithet.
Look at all of this from a business / marketing perspective … turning things around is not an impulse consumer purchase … it is like the sales and promotional process for high ticket capital equipment … long sales cycles … not every sale/purchase happens at the same time, many decision makers involved (and many motives)
… and long held loyalties have strong momentum… ( can take 3x the effort to displace an entrenched opponent)
Should watch old films … seems like trump has …imagine him standing in front of the TV mimicking every gesture.
‘Firewall’? More like the water-tight doors on RMS Titanic, imo. If the water gets high enough…The metaphor should not be a ‘Blue Wave’ but a new sea level of involvement and citizens performing their civic duty to vote! If we can get voter turn-out to 75%+ the current gerrymandering can be corrected.
What Democrats will need to do is resist the temptation to ‘do to them what they did to us’. Every citizen deserves to be heard.
