On Election Day, four states — Michigan, Utah, Colorado and Missouri — went around the politicians and passed ballot initiatives that will require fair maps. Red states, blue states, purple states — they all detest gerrymandering.
Can’t speak for the other 3 states, but in Michigan the campaign was grassroots, clearly and honestly explained and on the ball from the start. The chamber of commerce came in too late with anti ads that were pitched at the simpleton/GOP base demo.
No doubt they will have learned from their mistakes, so other states will have to anticipate better opposition. Four down, forty-six to go.
