That simply can’t be! Why, judeidiot from another thread says that Israel gives warnings before every bombing so that no one gets hurt! He can’t be wrong, can he? So this MUST be anti-Semite propaganda! Israel is NEVER wrong! /s

I assume I am “judeidiot.” (which, let’s be honest, is not particularly clever, as it does not sound remotely like “uberjude.”–it would be like me calling you “Traderstupid”) As with most things being posted, you are of course completely wrong.

  1. I never said anything about Israel giving warnings before all attacks. It has, however, clearly been attempting to warn the civilian population to a great extent, which fulfills its obligations under the Geneva Conventions, and it has, to a great extent, been successful.

  2. I never accused anybody on this site of being an antisemite.

  3. I have never said that Israel is never wrong.

Amazing how in one short post, you managed to screw up so much.

Why is my tax money going to a religious fundamentalist rogue state that murders children? If Hobby Lobby gets to opt out on religious grounds why can’t I?

… we don’t send money to Hamas.

There was no reason for this, Hamas thumbed their noses at the cease fire yesterday, Israel stopped bombing, Hamas did not. They could be hammering out a peace plan now, these people could all still be alive.

God forbid we have even-handed policy toward Israel and the Palestinians. Instead, we not only allow Israel to do whatever it wants with impunity, but we also allow them to dictate our Middle East policy.

Totally sick of them. Let them fend for themselves, and the market with figure out a sustainable foreign policy for them.

Maxie was referring to Israel.

Hey, you are not an idiot! But I’m afraid we disagree on everything else.
But now that we are on the topic of usernames, I have to think that your choice of “Uberjude” is actually indicative of the State of Israel’s attitude towards Palestinians. My small knowledge of German suggests that “uber” means “over” or “superior”. So I read into it that you are a “superior” Jew, destined to rule over Palestinians.
Perhaps this is a misconception which you can clear up, but I really don’t think that is the attitude you want to be presenting right now. Or is it!

Well, they certainly believe that the Palestinians are untermensch, so the rest isn’t surprising.

“Uber” also means “super.” Let me ask you–if somebody said they were a Super New Yorker, or a Super Car Salesman, or a Super Sax Player, would you assume that they are suggesting that Sax Players are super in relation to other humans, or that they are super in relation to other Sax Players? You are reading a political meaning into something that was adopted years ago simply as a joke.

I’m just extremely happy being a Jew, and–in point of fact–when I took this years ago, it was with white supremacists in mind, taking something that they think is negative, and making it into a positive, in their own lingo.

As far as Jewish superiority goes, I spend too much time with Jews to have any illusions about Jewish intellectual or moral superiority. In point of fact, I loathe right wing Zionism and anti-Arab Jewish racism. My wish is for Gaza and the Palestinians in general to be free from the victimization of both Israel and Hamas, and when Israel does something I think that’s wrong, I am more than happy to condemn it. Hamas not only victimizes its own people, but its campaigns of violence have, at critical points (like the years after the Gaza withdrawal) turned an Israeli electorate that had in fact been willing to embrace peace to instead choose to embrace what they saw as security.

Please see above for exegesis.

Well, thanks for your explanation. But it is fact that many Israelis do consider themselves superior to the native Palestinians. I had not realized how much so until today I saw this video about Jewish settlers in the West Bank:

Well, yes, obviously. Monotheism (to which I most certainly adhere) tends to breed intolerance, and add war to the mix, and things get very bad very fast.

But I find troubling the tendency on the part of some to–quite reasonably–criticize religious extremism on the part of Israelis, without recognizing that Hamas is part of the flip side of that in Gaza, with the important caveat that in Israel, the religious extremists are not in power (although some are in gov’t, Likud and its coalition partners are primarily secular, and the second largest partner, Yesh Atid, is explicitly anti-extremist), while in Gaza they are in sole control.

That is not a minor point, and here’s why–a change in Israeli policy will not change Hamas, because they are not interested in negotiations (and again, they seized power in Gaza after Israel’s withdrawal, and before the Israeli blockade). By contrast, the downfall of Hamas, and replacement in Gaza by the PA, could in fact lead to a change in the Israeli electoral status quo.
