Discussion: Iraq War Vet Tammy Duckworth Says Shinseki 'Has To Go'

Discussion for article #223336

Good grief; you too Tammy? Really???

Trump it comes down to this unfortunally thats why they are Demowinps.

As a GOPer member of Congress explained some years ago, bipartisanship consists of the Democrats doing what the GOP tells them to do.

What an idiot.

Looks like Shinseki is as good as gone.

And to put a positive light on this, it proves the Democrats are willing to hold their own accountable, how many Republicans did you hear wanting Rummy’s scalp after not sending our troops over into Iraq with the adequate body armor they needed?

I didn’t think he would survive this scandal which is a real shame.

Is this something Obama appoints, or will there be confirmation? If it involves confirmation, pfft, it’ll never get filled.

I’m sorry, but I disagree with her. As do a lot of vets I’ve known who have been part of the VA structure.

I still haven’t seen a single fact based reason to get rid of him right now in the middle of this scandal, and especially get rid of him before he can take any steps to enact change in the system. Before ANYONE can enact change in the system. It’s a short sighted solution.

You get rid of Shinseki now you then spend how long getting the “new leadership” she’s talking about through a congressional vetting and approval? In the meantime, the veterans she’s claiming she wants to help continue to suffer, and worst - to wait.

Let him do what the President has asked him to do - enact the change and do it now. And afterwards discuss whether or not he keeps his position. The President made it abundantly clear the results of this “house cleaning” will be closely watched and Shinseki’s job depended on it being done the way he wants it done. If he stumbles out of the gate or fails in some way - then yes, I would say then get rid of him. But there are plenty of folks at the VA who have been quietly insistent that he stay, and I suspect they’re in the best position to know.

Doing it right now bows to the political whims of those who want to tie this as an albatross to the WH rather than to the VA centres that were the epicenter of the problem. It’s a shame to see Tammy Duckworth bend to that wind, I expected more from her.

He should put Patraeus in charge. That’ll fix it.

Well he offered his resignation and the President accepted it -so its a done deal.

Watch live. President just “regrettably” accepted his resignation.

Shinseki is a gentleman through and through. This had to be a tough decision for the President. I agree they need to get rid of this as a distraction that the GOPErs will use to their benefit

Sh’s hardly an idiot Les. This is a real bad situation and she knows it’s not Shinseki’s fault but the GOPERs are going to use this against the dens and it’s best to get this over with and apparently Shinskei offered his resignation and the President accepted it

Amen and it’s time to stop the bleeding because the repukes will use this as a political shitstorm for this entire election year and we cannot have this. Shinseki will survive.

He offered his resignation to the President and the president had to accept it.

Just heard that he resigned. Wow. What a bad move on his part.

He should nominate Rand Paul to be VA Secretary.

Not only has nobody that deep in the Cabinet ever progressed to President, but then the Randroid would either have to accept or be accused of hating veterans by not wanting to help them fix this mess.

Plus he’ll be out of the Senate.

The writing was pretty clear early on. Obama made quite a bit of noise about the VA when he first ran, so I didn’t see something like this happening without some sacrificial heads rolling.

and with all the crap the republicans pulled including all the embassy attacks under Bush, 911, Iraq, Afganistan, not getting Bin Laden, Putin invading Georgia, lying about Obama care, closing down of Walt Reed hospital, keeping minorities, from voting and nothing said but Obama is weak.
and the republicans controll the house , governorships, and may take the senate. and your bragging about how honest the Demowimps are . i will repeat.

Duckworth’s been in the VA at both state and local levels.

While I can appreciate that she has sincere outrage, she’s also a politician and she knows an opening for a power play when she sees it.

Sec VA, Tammy Duckworth – coming soon.
