Hi. I’m a new poster here and I’ve noticed that a few posters here apparently are lawyers. I’ve got a question that might be considered off topic, so I apologize in advance.
Let’s say that the House of Representatives find someone in contempt. What can the House do about it? If they have to rely on the Department of Justice to prosecute, then I suspect Trump will put his thumb on that and make it not happen. Can the House use the Sergeant at Arms to arrest the offender? If so, where do they place the accused? And who tries the accused if not the Courts? Can the House try the person that the House charged with contempt?

I think that word doesn’t mean what you think it means. For conservatives, the “swamp” consists of burdensome regulations that protect unworthy individuals at the expense of our fragile business interests, and career government employees, a.k.a. “welfare recipients”, who get in the way of our profits.

It is my understanding the house can 1. arrest, fine and or imprison an individual for the duration of the Congressional secession. ( the last time they did this was in 1935 ) 2. They can refer it to the Attorney General, he can decide if he wants to putsue the case. 3. They can refer the case to the local ( DC ) prosecuter who can decide if they want to pursue the case.
I believe to minimize the damage Trump’s appointments to positions in government can do would be to give them a quart of rum every morning and unlimited access to porn on their government computer. They would not be able to remember who their previous employer was. Problem fixed.
