Discussion: Insistent Carson Defends Remark That Hitler Could 'Happen Here' To Whoopi

He killed that one, should cross it off the list and move on I think. Maybe scaring random herds of cows into a stampede or something. Start a missing sock search.

He’s admitting that his goal is to make people angry. It seems like that’s part of the problem.

So is that a campaign promise?

Sounds like his campaign manager should be running.

Hitler and the Nazi movement was people standing up and speaking out for what they believed.

But true. Any number of the Republican candidates with the support of the House Tea Party and PAC money are aching for Hitler cred. At least that’s what some of them are promising.

When fascism comes to America it will come wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.
You know, Ben Carson’s campaign.

Actually, it did. It was particularly a problem on the Eastern Front, where there were always outnumbered, but more so after Stalingrad. You have to remember, by the middle of '43, the Germans had lost an entire Army at Stalingrad, and two more Armies in Tunisia. Completely loss, not just heavily damaged. That was a huge manpower hit for a country that was already outnumbered. And that is precisely the time that the SS started demanding more manpower.

But even before Stalingrad, the standing orders to hunt out and kill undesirables in the civilian population created huge morale problems and well as putting a strain upon manpower. And the further they drove into Russia, the worst that became. Long supply lines through areas where they had totally pissed off the local population meant more and more resources had to be dedicated to putting down partisan attacks.

So, he advocates that people stand up and take a stand. However, has he said a single word about Alabama making it nearly impossible for Black citizens to vote? Hmmm…crickets. So…if he really wants people to stand up, like all the other GP candidates, apparently he only wants certain people to be able to stand up. Yeah…just another clown in the car.

Uncle Ben doesn’t seem to know (and why would he?) that as early as March 1933, the first 200 people to speak out against Hitler were already incarcerated by Himmler at Dachau.

(Wikipedia skim read of “Dachau”: 15 seconds.)

John Cleese nails it.

When you’ve lost your campaign manager, you’ve lost America.

This is such a sick rewrite of history. Did the Gestapo suddenly march out through all the villages in German, enslaving everyone and collecting all their guns? No, Hitler just told a majority of the people that a minority of the people were dangerous, and tightened gun restrictions on the minority while loosening them for the majority. That’s where the dynamic is apparent in the U.S. – in the way the GOP demonizes immigrants and minorities while doing all they can to keep the majority armed to the teeth.

These assho!es don’t want to admit they’re the bad guys in their analogy. Carson should be ashamed of himself.

We know!

Just look at the gop/bag party!

…and the party that will bring him to you is the GOP.

The irony is that he might be the man for that job.

Remember, as Sinclair Lewis is famously touted as having said, and later wrote about inIt Can’t Happen Here:

“When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.”
