Discussion: Inside The Trump-Tiger Woods Lovefest (And Business Entanglements)

The shameless Tiger Woods will shamelessly accept this award from the shameful president. They deserve each other but why us? Why us?

In future history books, awards given by Trump should be given footnotes in order to differentiate them from real honors.

Woods is as morally bankrupt as Trump but he at least has real achievements to his name.

It is remarkable how donald cheapens everything when he discards the ā€˜normsā€™ surrounding the things he touches. He now cheapens this award - no direct reflection on Woods, but business partner and mid-career. Just more headlines. donald has cheapened foreign policy, the presidency and even pardons (i.e. Joe Arpaio) Wonā€™t Arpaio forever after be remembered as the guy who was pardoned out of contempt of court? Probably a suitable foot note in history.

"Very few athletes have ever been given the award in general,ā€¦"

Those getting the award in the category of Sports actually outnumber those receiving it in many other categories, including Science, Religion, Philanthropy and Education.

keep in mind that Woods is non-committal on Trump. Last year, when he was asked about his relationship with Trump, Woods consistently phrased his response in terms of ā€œrespect for the presidencyā€ ā€“ not a ringing endorsement.

ā€œHeā€™s the President of the United States. You have to respect the office,ā€ he said. ā€œNo matter who is in the office, you may like, dislike personality or the politics, but we all must respect the office.ā€

Maybe itā€™s not business or politics which draws them together. They seem to have a solid (?) gold relationship.

Golfing freedom baby, itā€™s the best kind!

Woods certainly has his short comings, but they center mainly around failings in his personal life. I donā€™t think that his faults are in any way comparable to those of Donald Trump. Woods, like Trump, may be a hypocritical philanderer, but he hasnā€™t been working to undermine the fabric of our society. A sports writer recently wrote about how flagrantly Trump cheats at the game. He referenced a round full of cheating that Trump played with Woods and other PGA professionals. So far, I havenā€™t heard Woods come out to deny the story and defend Trump, like the run of the mill Trump supporter would.

Well that is one way you get a Black athlete to show at the White Houseā€¦

ā€œOur President has proven incapable of making reasoned, sound judgments about nearly every issue set before him. I decline to accept this award, preferring instead to have a future President consider my accomplishments and contributions to the nation. Should I be deemed fit for such an honor in years to come I will proudly accept it. I will have no other comments, nor be granting interviews or answering questions on this subject, going forward. Thank you.ā€

That is what I'd like to hear Tiger Woods say.

Yeah, pretty much good luck with anyone taking a moral stand against Trump. Jerry Nadler says he will. Sometime next week. Or maybe in June.
