Discussion: Indy Candidate Bizarrely Calls Presser To Tell Voters He's Not Dropping Out

Discussion for article #229465

What???

He’s upset that he’s not featured in his opponent’s negative ad?

Shit. That means he thinks he can act as spoiler/king-maker. And he’s going to inflict LePage on ME for another term.

Asshole.

This guy’s a leaky asshole.

Paid operative of LePage says what?

Soooo, he just got a big “donation” from LePage’s supporters?

It is disgusting to me that he is so selfish and egotistical that he wants to be a spoiler. I hope people that plan on voting for him realize this.

This is exactly the same stunt Tom Golisano pulled in 2002 NY Governor’s. Unfortunately this is much more grave because LePage is seriously destructive as opposed to Pataki.

I’m hoping if they didn’t realize he’s a selfish jackass before, this little stunt will make it abundantly clear.

Very, very interesting, since Daily Kos had this article about Cutler yesterday. If as Daily Kos reported, the Republicans are trying to boost this guy now, and today he comes out with this bizarre statement, does it give you the idea, that an envelope with some big bills stuffed in it made it into this guy’s hands, or that promises for a cushy job doing nothing for a lot of pay might have been offered? Something stinks here, and as usual it has the smell of right wing dirty dealings.

He calls a Press Conference to say he’s not dropping out, yet his supporters can vote for whomever they please? Sounds like he is talking out of both sides of his mouth. What an Asshole!

What sort of people are planning to vote for him anyhow?

Who, then, is the greater asshole? The asshole in a distant third place who siphons net votes from the person in second who could beat the right wing extremist if he had those votes, or the asshole who votes for said asshole and then insists it’s the fault of the person in second for not “earning” his vote?

Okay, it would probably sound more impressive in Latin . . .

No - the RGA is running an ad that claims Michaud voted (as a state senator) to tax Social Security, and that Angus King (as Governor) vetoed the bill, and that as a result of Michaud’s vote King has endorsed Cutler. The logic is that Republicans can siphon support from Michaud to Cutler, and that Cutler can’t win.

Regarding your question on the other Cutler thread, I read somewhere this morning that if Cutler weren’t in the race it would net Michaud about 6 points. He hasn’t dropped out, but that same poll shows Independent and Democratic supporters of Cutler breaking for Michaud fairly dramatically in the last two weeks. Game over.

I haven’t been real impressed with Michaud’s ad campaign, but his campaign is largely staffed by the people who ran the Marriage Equality referendum a couple of years ago, and in my opinion those folks ran the best ground game the state has ever seen, better than OFA in my opinion.

Looking forward to the President’s rally in Portland tomorrow.

EDIT: Oops. Should have read about the Republican donors donating directly to Cutler’s PAC. Not surprising, since the Republicans clearly see - and rightly so - that a vote for Cutler is a vote for LePage.

A narcissistic independent — and most independents seem to be narcissists — is not going to abandon his campaign this close to the election. If he did, the heroic image he sees in the mirror would crumble before his eyes.

To be fair, being a bit narcissistic is part of the make up of nearly every politician, regardless of political leanings. You are running for a job where your opinion substitutes for the opinions of tens of thousands of fellow Americans. That requires you think highly of your opinion and self.
