Discussion: In Stunning Claim, Trump Suggests McGahn Lied Under Oath

We all know McGahn is trash but he ratted out Trump so that’s a good thing. As Joyce Vance and Barbara McQuade testified, you can indict and convict Trump on that stuff alone.

The idea that he won’t stand behind what he said to Mueller which we can all read about and boldly go to the Judiciary committee on live tv and spill the beans is frankly pathetic on his part. As a member of the legal profession, he knows he’ll be ok. Yeah, he might get crossed off a few cocktail party lists, but he’ll meet other people. In a few years, he’ll write books, consult on a movie and laugh all the way to the bank and become a quasi celebrity because everyone is dying for that Republican with an ounce of conscience which is really about self-preservation or situational morality.

His punk ass needs to go to the committee before all the court stuff gets resolved. In fact, his willingness to go to the committee would probably give Dems a big upper hand in the court fights.

Good point. Maybe someone who is technologically challenged? Unable to tweet or use the internet?

Who are we kidding. They’re looking for a functioning moron.

He needs a PR professional to calmly outline the ‘path to redemption’ that will net him big, BIG bucks.

Hell, I’d chip in to buy him off.

The real reason that John Dean was invited to testify, maybe? </tinfoil>

I came to say something similar, but you said it better than I would have done.

The key here is that McGahn very likely memorialized or wrote emails about this. With a functioning oversight operation, those documents would be available either already or imminently.

But they aren’t. McGahn refused to comply with the Democratic subpoena to produce all documents. That refusal was back on May 7, presumably in response to a subpoena issued in April. On June 6th, a contempt resolution was introduced–but has not yet been passed. Earlier this week, June 11, Democrats authorized judicial enforcement of the subpoena–over a month after the refusal. No court proceedings have yet been taken. Nobody has been held in contempt. It’s a shambles.

  1. Trump admits he repeatedly commented that Mueller was conflicted, but says he never said he needed to be removed? That’s the obvious followup statement from an impulsive narcissist like Trump, so of course he said it.

  2. How does Trump remember so definitively that he didn’t say Mueller should be removed? According to his deposition he remembers almost nothing.

Just saw this and it’s a very interesting clip. Near the end Where Donald cahle George a little wise guy it came across to be at Donald making fun of him being small and almost physically intimidating. Wonder if they have some clips similar to the Gayle King interview of R Kelly?

Except he made this remark to Stephanopoulos on Tue./Wed., and ABC has been sitting on this.

Need more coffee.

I’m thinking older school.

This episode does have a bit of Cohen-esque betrayal to it, but McGahn is a more widely experienced bootlicker, so he may hold up.

I hope you’re right, but fear @sedonaz has a good point. :smirk:

McGahn sang like a bird in the Mueller report. He not so much of Trump loyalist that he is willing to go to jail or lose his law license.

That’s what makes me hopeful that the public humiliation of Twitler calling him a perjuror and denigrating him may get under his skin enough to say, screw it.

He has gotten away with this for over seventy years. There is no indication whatsoever that he will not also get away with it for the next five and a half years.

My guess is that when Barr issues a report of his ‘investigation’ , there will be an incessant hammering by Trump of those who will be (baselessly) accused in the report of committing crimes against the state and the dear leader, and a lot of people will be needlessly put on the defensive.

But those who are supposed to hold these guys accountable to stop the Trumpian assault on and hacking of our democracy would still be telling us that doing their job will be extremely divisive.

The guy is a serial perjurer. In addition to obstruction he lied in his written statements and he’s lying here against someone who testified under oath. But don’t impeach, amirite?

He’s already gaslighting the Mueller Report for the 2020 election. Everyone lied to get him. He’s innocent.

Let’s be serious. Trump said McGahn lied under oath to make himself look like a good lawyer to cover up the truth, which is that Trump told him to lie, otherwise known as suborning perjury.

How the hell can he maintain a privilege with regard to an attorney he claims is lying? Is he at all capable of keeping his mouth shut?
