Discussion: In Reversal, GOP Rep. Ellmers Now Says She'll Vote For Abortion Bill

Discussion for article #232334

Time to play the game correctly, Dems: start messaging that they only support this kind of abhorrent language regarding rape because minorities are 10% more likely to be victims of it.

Oh, and GROW. SOME. BALLS.

Sheā€™s a strong GOTP woman! Doing what she is told. I think she needs a visit from Trans Vaginal Ultrasound.

So did they insert a codicil that Rep. Ellmers was not to be included in this law?

another bill that will get vetoed, wasting more time, that could be spent on legislation that might actually help their constituents. oh, right, their constituents are idiots.

You dance with them what brung you honey and donā€™t you be thinking ā€˜bout leaving the dance floor early. You ainā€™t finished dancinā€™ and you ainā€™t callinā€™ the tune.

So glad that Congress isnā€™t wasting its time dealing with economic, environmental, or other pressing social issues.

I originally meant that sardonically, but Iā€™m thinking now that I actually mean that. Iā€™m not sure I want these dunderheads concerning themselves with actual substantive issues.

Shorter GOTP: So you claim you were raped but know you donā€™t have the evidence to prove it? You better tell the police anyway if you hope to get an abortion! Did I mention that we know how to manage your life much better than you do?

Rep. Ellmerā€™s political survival instincts would appear to be stronger than her belief that women are entitled to make their own moral decisions.

Looks like Ellmars has a problem thinking for herself. As if she wants to do the right thing but right is wrong in the republican party.

Apparently the knuckledraggers dropped the whole thing.

Eventually, the Republicans are going to pass a bill requiring pregnant women to be physically restrained until they give birth. Itā€™s the only way to eliminate those pesky abortions, and itā€™s what the Founding Fathers wanted. You can look it up!

The authorities.

Conservatives call them ā€œbig governmentā€.

Oh no you wonā€™t. The GOP canceled tomorrowā€™s vote on this dog turd. You flip-flopped once too often.

(To be fair, maybe she reads TPM and didnā€™t get the news. This place seems to close up shop after about 5PM. Cā€™mon Josh! All those subscriptions, all those hires! Canā€™t you afford to update this website? The last item on ā€œLiveWireā€ was 4 freakinā€™ hours ago!)

Well, I guess those two Republican women did another switch-a-ma-roo. They pulled their support a second time it seems even after requesting their names get pulled from the bill and then agreeing to support it. Its being reported that the symbolic go-nowhere effort that the GOP has been pushing for this bill has GOP women apparently in revolt.

The bill will be pulled from any vote tomorrow. That whole ā€œlegitimate rapeā€ shit they added to the bill, where women would be forced to report their rape to law enforcement before being legally allowed to have an abortion apparently went to far, even for these rightwing GOP women.
