Discussion: IN Guv Signs Law Banning Women From Getting Abortions Because Of Fetal Defects

They will never consider a “hands off” approach …

as long as it has to do with a woman’s vagina —

I suppose that they will now be criminalizing amniocentesis and travel out of state for pregnant women. No one in IN is more than 3 hours from IL. You can get an abortion there. It’s just more inconvenient. We had the amnio, and since my wife was older (39), we certainly would have aborted if Down’s or other birth defect was present. This is the “forced birther” bill at its most clear.

Is stupidity common in this part of the country. Ignorant a$$hole.

who knew that the majority of Indiana’s Republican legislature had so many qualified OB/GYN members?

Critics in Indiana question whether the measure is constitutional, and
even GOP House Speaker Brian Bosma said he expects a court challenge if
Pence signs the bill into law.

How many billions have GOPers wasted on 4 decades of unconstitutional laws?

party of ‘fiscal responsibility’…

besides there is no price too great to pay or cost to bear when endeavoring to continue our paternalistic control over the overly emotional female body…

Pence is trying to stay ahead of McCrory in his troglodyte bona fides for the 2020 nomination – for whatever the GOP will be called then.

Which is why he has opposed any assistance to the aged, the infirm, and the disabled for his entire career.

This is just evil. Because in addition to all the other evils about forced birth and danger to women and the destruction of families who know they can’t deal with raising a severely handicapped child, this law is intended to force the birth of infants who will die really unpleasantly at a young age. These people want to torture babies.

(Yeah, I’m biased. My eldest spent six weeks in NICU, and most of what he and the other babies there experienced involved suffering relieved by uneasy sleep. Doing that in the hope that you’re going to end up with a person who can live a reasonably full life – our lucky outcome – is probably OK; doing that in the knowledge that an infant or child is going to die in pain anyway, possibly without ever understanding why, is just plain torture.)

Absolutely. Consider a Tay-Sachs fetus. The child will die in 3-4 years, P=1.0. What is the point of forcing the parents to raise that child for 3-4 years? The effort, the emotional trauma, the involvement of siblings - this is terrible. Of course, siblings are never considered in this “life at all costs” stuff. When you have a special-needs child, the rest of the children get basically sacrificed on the alter of the special needs kid. That’s a rough deal for them.

I am going to weight my answer - 50% B and 50% C. I honestly don’t think Mike Pence is “dim” - just an evil, dismissive, opportunistic, lacking in real human/Christian values politician.

Well, this legislation could certainly survive judicial scrutiny. But not in the United States.

This is why electing the overly religious is a bad idea . . . . because they will want to govern that way.

The only reason I did an amniocentesis when I was pregnant is because my doctor insisted I had to do it. He said he didn’t do abortions himself (it was against his religion) but it was imperative that I consider an abortion if defects were found. He would see that I got the right doctor to do the procedure if it was necessary.

He told me that defective fetuses can become toxic and could cause my death. He knew of few families with the patience, income and support network to deal with a child with those conditions. Most couples ended up divorcing after the first year of such births.

He asked me point blank if I wanted to raise such a child by myself in poverty.

This is what Republicans want to force women to do? It’s like they feel they can punish women.but men just get to walk away?

If Republicans ban such abortions nationwide, I predict there will be a revolt among middle class Republican women. What they give lip service to at church for others to live by, they will not accept for themselves or their daughters and granddaughters. They never have and won’t start now.

Maybe this is what it’s going to take to get these Republicans out of office for good. Make Republican women feel like they are trapped with no way out.

We own it until you have it. Then you can go f**k yourself trying to get any help for the rest of it’s life.
My party first and religion second. Got it, I am the GOVERNOR

Add this law to either Trump or Cruz heading the national ticket and I believe Indiana will turn blue in November 2016…,
Oh, and, Pence was toast before this bill. Signing it he probably ended half his colleagues’ careers. And, forget replacing Senator Coates ® with another gop.

By signing this bill, Pence made McCrory a shoe-in winner in November…and, he probably turned Indiana blue.

“Pro-life” is anything but. It’s all about punishing the sluts who have the audacity to get pregnant when they don’t want to. The slut-haters really don’t give a shit about anything else. They lie to themselves and pretend it’s all about the fetuses and fertilized ova, but when it comes down to it, it’s that those slutty women get pregnant, and they need to be forced to carry the pregnancy to term to be punished for their slutty sluttiness. That’s why most “pro-lifers” are fine with rape and incest abortions (not a slut!) and don’t insist that all women of childbearing potential wear vaginal filters to catch any “unborn babies” that wash out during a failed implantation or early spontaneous abortion. They, of course, couch it in terms of “responsibility,” as if accidentally getting pregnant removes a woman’s autonomy over her own body. They would not treat someone they didn’t hate this way. That’s how you know they’re slut-haters.
