Discussion: In Fundraising Email, Sanders Calls O’Rourke’s First-Day Haul ‘Bad News’

Yeah, he’s dreamy, ain’t he? Reading his posts is like listening to Pat Boone trying to sing the Bob Dylan songbook.

Because the fact is that there are a whole lot of us who think that’s too old for the job. And now you will say that’s ageist. I don’t believe that’s a real thing.

I really do not. I think Bernie supporters made it up. People change as they age and they begin to lose mental and physical acuity. Just ask me. I’m living it like we all do with very rare exceptions. Ageism isn’t a thing.

You left out the sentence that clarifies the claim:

This doesn’t seem like trolling to me.

Goddamn, Bernie. And you wonder why people keep comparing you to Abe Simpson?

Exactly why Joe Biden will probably wait until April 3rd to announce his candidacy and not disclose any fundraising data until required to do so at the end of the 2nd Quarter. The funds will be there for him and he’ll keep that close to the vest and let the other candidates make their fundraising appeals/emails about what others are doing.

Yeesh. More than mildly, I’d say.

That’s just another reason why Biden is waiting until April. The money won’t be his message.

You guys have the weirdest understanding of the terms “centrist” and “establishment.” It’s like you think the rightmost point on the nation’s political spectrum is occupied by people who thought Barack Obama was a good president.

Just one reason I didn’t like Sanders. Not that Bernie wrote this email, but it’s this whole mentality of Us versus Them his campaign has, as if we need someone special to save us and it’s definitely him.

But in reality, any Democrat will do, both in terms of beating Trump AND doing the job. I’d rather it be a technocrat with managerial skills and not an activist who wants to pass legislation from the wrong branch of government. But I’ll take any Democrat we can get and think they’d all be equally effective at listening to their advisors and appointing the people they’re told to appoint. Everything else is window dressing.

Send your money to Pete Buttigieg rather than to either of these other guys.

“The good news is, we more than likely had a lot more individual donations than he did.”

“But what that means is if we are going to avoid getting outspent, it’s going to take lots and lots of people making individual donations to catch up,”

What do you have against Beto?

I would say that age can’t be used as a disqualifying characteristics but it can be used as a consideration to the degree it informs us (somewhat minimally, I must admit) about likely problems with physical and mental health during the would be presidency.

Yeah that’s rich coming from georgeh since he blasted the most qualified candidate who has ever run.

Except for the part where he’s got three times more time in Congress than Abraham Lincoln?

That’s some real TPM insider stuff. I don’t know what you’re talking about but it’s besides the point and doesn’t change the fact that Beto is unqualified.

Is it my imagination, or is that the worst lipsynching, staging and camera work ever?

Cornell Belcher, the pollster, was on some show and said "There isn’t 15 cents of difference between any of these candidates on policy " so it’s going to come down to who can excite and inspire the voters.

Didn’t Obama get similar criticism? I seem to remember a lot of mockery about “Hope” not really being a platform. On the other hand, Hillary put out lots of detailed position papers.(I know Obama did too but the average voter was not voting on his positions but about for what his candidacy said about the country and themselves.)

Nothing needs to be said here.

Speaking only for myself, I “hearted” @spencersmom’s comment because I thought it was funny, and because I very much loved my grandparents…especially when they were about Bernie’s age.
