Discussion: Human Rights Campaign: Louisiana Anti-Gay Bill 'Worse' Than Indiana's

Discussion for article #235131

This “Marriage and Conscience Act” is nothing but a bag of piyush!!!

If the LGBTQ community is actually named in the bill, I wonder how the (potential) law would stand up to SCOTUS scrutiny when examined under the light of SCOTUS’ own Colorado Amendment 2 decision back in the '90s? In that decision, they explicitly state that laws cannot single out gays for unequal treatment.

And, for the hard of thinking, when Mississippi does it it will be the worst of all

I assume they’re just waiting for Alabama to do theirs so that Mississippi can make sure theirs is he worst possible.

Booby loves being the Party of Stupid.

Other than scenery, food and music, I suspect you’d be hard-pressed to find many things that aren’t worse in Louisiana than Indiana.

Well, there used to be fishing, but that was pre-BP.

So a Catholic hospital could refuse to allow the wife of a dying man in to see him because he was previously married? Awesome sauce.

Must be nice, up there in the clouds, looking down on the mortals from your high horse.

It seems that, if you were as informed as you think you are, you would know that Mississippi (and Alabama) have already passed RFRAs.

Does your informed state of mind allow you to access the inner workings of every Mississippian’s brain, the dealings of the Mississippi State Legislature, or, for that matter, the dealings and workings of any other person in any other state in this country? Have you never once had a prejudicial thought in your entire life? Do you live in a perfect society, one without civil injustice? If you answered yes to any of these, well, I want to know what drugs you’re on, because they must be good.

One last thing. How many times has a representation of you, a photo, a quote, etc. been featured by a news organization, local, regional, national, or international, because of the good work you’ve been doing to educate and inform the poor, huddled masses? How many times have you been featured because of the important work you’ve been doing in the fight for civil rights and liberties? The woman in the photo is from Mississippi and this photo was taken the day she traveled to New Orleans to support the LGBTQ community in front of the 5th circuit. The photo has been featured in more than a dozen articles. Her daughter has been interviewed by numerous news outlets, including the BBC, all because she has chosen to focus her efforts on making this world a better place for everyone.

You have a right to your opinions, sure, but you also have a vast wealth of knowledge right at your fingerprints that can, if nothing else, ensure your opinion is informed.

I’ve only lived there 15 years. They’ll make it worse. Don’t worry. There is no low expectation they can’t limbo under.

So it seems you are the worst kind of Mississippi resident. A person that will admit you live there only so you can belittle it and demonize it. I guess it’s easier to join the circus, than actually try to make a difference. It’s easier to make negative jokes and comments, which can only impede a greater impetus for change, than offer a valuable contribution to the conversation.

Your status as a newbie purity troll has been duly noted.

As a New Yorker, I’d kill to make a swap of New Orleans for Staten Island; except for the humidity adjustment, I think everybody’d be happier.

Please, “note” away.

It should be easy to recognize that any person who is going to make derogatory, factually inaccurate comments should be able and willing to admit his or her own shortcomings.

You know nothing about me or my life. If I’m a “troll”, then, by definition, you are too.

Well, and it’s questionable whether the transported New Orleans’ residents would survive their first winter up there.

No worries; in a few years, we won’t have winters any more.

Now, now. As I always have to tell the global warming denying goobers, “global warming” means that more of the solar energy fuels the complex systems that produce the events we call “weather” is being retained in the atmosphere rather than reflected into space. It doesn’t mean that the Earth’s axial tilt has changed.

Now whether we’ll continue to have a Staten Island or a New Orleans, that’s a whole other thing . . .

I know enough about you that my comment was true—otherwise you would not have replied as you did.

You’re as thin-skinned as Rand Paul----and just as foolish.

Okay, Mr. Smarty, answer my flip remark with your fancy-pants “science” – I’m willing to bet you there’ll be no snow on our streets, once we’re navigating them in rowboats. So there.
