This man must lose. If he does not - if he somehow wins the Presidency - we will not recover from it in the lifetimes of anyone now living.
President Obama has not splintered America. FOX and the right have. They own it, the entire racist shit-show is all theirs.
Well, I’ll give Trump one thing – he can certainly snarl and sneer with the best of them.
Dick Cheney would be proud.
I’m reasonably sure that his acceptance speech didn’t win over a single person who wasn’t fully in support of him already. It was long, rambling, dark and full of blatant inaccuracies. Sure, the people who already love Trump approved of everything he said in this speech, but you can’t win an election with only the support of the choir.
All in all, I think the RNC convention this year will go down as one of the worst political conventions in modern history and Trump’s speech will likely be seen as a total debacle in retrospect. I would expect that the Democrats will put on a much better show next week, which will stand as a stark contrast to the mismanaged disorganized mess we had to endure this week.
If I’m right, then I would also expect to see Hillary pull about ten points ahead of Trump by the week after next and hold that lead, or even gain on it, until the election.
There aren’t any words to describe how scary I find the spectrum of a Trump presidency.
Here at TPM, we, for the most part write and comment in an intelligent manner.
We see Trump for what and whom he is and are aware of the danger of his and the current iteration of the Republican’s party dogma for the country and world at large.
When I participate and read posts, I feel safer and saner. Then I leave and watch a news network or read a center right paper, visit another website, etc. and the fear I feel is palpable.
Fear not only of him but of the millions of people who believe in what he believes and worst. People whose higher self is the lowest dregs of a barrel.
Who I am, ticks off several of the undesirable boxes of the far right. Wrong skin color, gender, attracted to the same sex and worst of all, an immigrant.
I have lived in this country for over 20 yrs and grown to love it to my core. I have considered myself an American for a long time and continue to do so.
Yet, coming off the last four days, for the first time it scares me to be here.
The more time goes by, and, I witness the complicity and dishonesty of those entrusted with keeping politicians and us honest, my fear deepens.
At this moment I wonder if anything the Democrats do and say next week, will allay these fears.
So yes @arrendis, as far I am concerned, this man MUST loose and, God I hope the prognosticators are right.
I really hope so @dave48.
“I have a message for all of you: The crime and violence that today afflicts our nation will soon come to an end beginning on Jan. 20, 2017.”.
Then Trump promised that unicorns, fairies, leprechauns, and pots of gold would cover the land.
Texas delegates Reid Wilson and Sean Ireland were getting fired up as they recounted the ways Republican leaders in Washington had let them down and all the ways their nominee Donald Trump was going to bring accountability back to government.
This is the key. Trump and his cronies blame all the problems with government on the Democrats, when in reality, the problems are the result of Repuglican inaction, obstruction, and sabotage directed against Obama. These Texas rubes know it, but they just don’t make the connection.
Democrats must do everything possible to connect those dots!
Maybe I’m in minority. I thought the speech was TERRIBLE. Also he’s going to fix everything (i.e., spend a TON of money), even as he lowers taxes. Supposedly.
It’s a load of crap! And I think it was lousy, and ridiculous.
REPUBLICAN PARTY, THE age 162, passed from this world on July 21 in Cleveland, surrounded by dysfunctional family, and following a long battle with mental illness. Born in a Ripon, Wisconsin schoolhouse on March 20, 1854, it spent its early years preserving the Union, ending slavery, and enshrining equal protection under the law through the Civil War and Reconstruction. More recently, it enjoyed sabbaticals during the Clinton and Obama administrations, but succumbed to severe psychosis during its final years, eventually taking its own life. It was preceded in death by the Fourth Estate, and leaves behind a grieving corporate establishment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hillary for America. Burial is scheduled for November 8.
First of all, I’m a Vietnam Vet with war-related health issues, and saying Vet’s are hit harder than other Americans is self-piitying emotional blackmail. If the writers or this Vet believeTrump cares so much about the Troops who risk their lives, why didn’t those currently in harms way rate one line of his bizarrely repetitive speech? Romney got hammered for the same omission, but the MSNBC regular Pundits didn’t even notice this until rightwing radio demagogue Hewitt mentioned that it forced him to lower his grade to B+ .
So, two questions for the writers of this article. Why did you waste precious space in this woefully brief piece with that Veteran’s quote instead of providing us with a modicum of in-depth analysis, and why are you so obsessed with how a Convention Hall filled with rabid Clinton haters responded as opposed to the moderates and Sanders voters watching an angry old white man bringing to life that famous surreal painting called “The Scream”?
“How Trump Won Over The Republican Party”.
Simple…he expelled everyone that wasn’t on his side.
Thank you, I can always count on you to make me laugh.
I think for Trump supporters, it’s more about denying Hillary and the Democrats yet another victory than believing in and supporting Trump. They’ve on the defensive and are acting accordingly.
They’ve lost the last two Presidential elections. They’ve lost their SCOTUS majority. They’ve lost on same-sex marriage, on Obamacare, on the Iran and Cuba deals, and they feel like they’re losing on immigration.
I know, as progressives, we feel sometimes that there hasn’t been enough progress for our taste…but for conservatives, their world has been rocked.
And if they have to support an obviously unqualified candidate to win again, so be it.
Even though you withdrew the post.
Thank you for the words written.
Thank you. I am buoyed by your optimism.
Trump cares about no one except himself. He’s Dorian Grey in the mirror. It’s doubtful the man has many friends. Don’t forget he also claimed he had hundreds of friends die in the the towers. The man is so naracessistic and self absorbed his only friend is the box of tissues at his bedside.
##Sh-t just got very very real!
But we will fight back and with a fury.
