Discussion: How Republicans Can Avoid A Gov't Shutdown — And How They Can Fail

It’s just another instance of the cold civil war in the GOP bubbling to the surface. The kleptocratic oligarch faction, led by the MIC, Big Ag, Big Finance, and allied to the permanent war neocons, want a powerful government to use tax policy and spending to upwardly redistribute wealth and keep its boot on the necks of the uppity proles. The Neo-Feudal Warlordists, led by the Kochs and their allies, want to destroy the government so they can get on with extorting and repressing the serfs directly, without government interference. Fights like the Import-Export Bank fight are skirmishes in that war.

You mean I was under-promised and still got NO reward??? Hell I did even get an Obama phone…

Also, the Speaker could do something truly unprecedented and at least schedule timely votes on all 12 appropriations bills. It could be tough to squeeze it in working only 10 days a month, but maybe if Republicans worked 20 days they could achieve something extraordinary.

Never doubt the craven stupidity of the Republicans in congress. They have to “out hate” each other on a hourly basis. This is the down side of their gerrymandering, the house GOP is safe and don’t care about anyone else. It could happen. No matter how loud or long the GOP screams “it was Obamas fault” they own government shut downs and the majority of Americans know it.

I think that if they worked AT ALL it would be extraordinary –

I was just thinking about how much I’m used to seeing one Mr. Cantor in pics like that.
But no more, my friend. No more.

They tried that last time, but the message never stuck, and so they duly got blamed for the shutdown. This isn’t the messaging operation of 2004 Karl Rove operating here… more like Larry, Curly, and Moe.

It’s interesting that our entire frame of reference, or at least that of the media, is of finely balanced power where each side controls 49% of the power and the last 2% of the public sits on the fence to see if it prefers R or D. In fact, the public has made it very clear at the polls that it prefers D, and the only thing keeping R in the ballgame is the 2010 gerrymander.*

If everything started from that frame, people would be more agitated to do something to fix gerrymandering before 2020.

*R taking the Senate would likewise be a reflection of the undemocratic nature of our Senate.

The gop is like 0-10 in successful goals over the past years. Why stop the non-progress now? If the gerrymandered districts could be straightened out, they wouldn’t have anyone in a position to make asses of themselves.
But in there twisted little minds, they are winning, they have protected the American people, created billions of jobs, saved healthcare, saved the job creators from burdensome regulations and taxes etc etc. Yes, they will shut the gov’t down again and say Obama made them do it. Then low and behold will keep there jobs once more to protect us from them. Unbelievable.

It’s time for a Constitutional Amendment to eliminate gerrymandering and go to Proportional Representation in the House of Representatives.

The Republican Congress sees the Import/Export Bank as a bastion of crony capitalism and corporate welfare. They know all about crony capitalism and corporate welfare. Republican congressmen/women champion crony capitalism and corporate welfare. Their Congressional leadership has made crony capitalism and corporate welfare the centerpiece of their platform. We are watching hypocrites in action.

Well now, that’s a pretty good example. Because the leadership TRIED to shut down talk of impeachment. But there are plenty of Goopers still talking about it; and it came at the cost of bringing this utterly ridiculous lawsuit.

So if that is your example of leadership in the GOP being effective, sorry, I’m not buying it.
