Fun fact: from July until the midterms, Congress will take more vacation days than Obama has taken in 3 years. And the GOP has the nerve to complain that Obama is taking too much vacation time.
Unless there’s a whole lot of anarchists out there that just really HATE the status quo–how does shutting down the Gov’t turn the Republicans into a broader coalition of voters? I can see how cretinous imbecile Ayn Rand fans might think a civilization in ruins is a neat idea, but I still labor under the delusion that most of my fellow Americans are essentially rational creatures–Ted Cruz and ilk, not withstanding.
Lotsa trolls around these parts today. Fascinating.
They are going to need Democrats’ votes to pass those continuing resolutions. But all they’re willing to offer is slightly-less-evil. I say let them grovel.
The GOTP = A Culture of FAILURE and LAZINESS.
There’s a reason Canadian Ted isn’t for it this time. He wants to protect the Tea0Pee’s chances of getting the Senate.
Yes, but the GOP argues that is was the DEMOCRATS that shut down the government last year, by refusing to “negotiate” the defunding of the ACA. So, yes, they will maintain – with a straight face – that it won’t be THEM that shuts down the government this year.
The new majority leader’s web site. Majorityleader.gov now lists the days, individually, the House is in session as a “DC work week”. The individual days when the members are out of town as a “District work week”. Imagine, a week’s worth of work EACH DAY!!! As I live and breathe. Man O man are these guys industrious.
In actuality there are scheduled to be 8 full and 2 partial days the House will be in session. Not a great deal of time to get done what needs to be done to keep the government funded.
I am astonished that Republicans have any chance of controlling Congress this election cycle. Except for their gerrymandering away democracy in House districts. Except for stating lies as truth and never facing any accountability in our largely fact-light media. Except for cloaking their hostility to science under wishful ignorance. Republicans glory in gifting our talents to corporations who care for nothing but maximizing profits for the few or they would prefer to bury those talents rather than use them wisely for the many whose hopes and labors and deaths in wars that truly mattered made this country, at its best, what it can truly be. We may never have the world we wish for, but we do have a President who has harbored our strength by getting out of unnecessary wars for a time when we will truly need to commit our forces. We do have a President who has sought alliances with other nations to face common threats and prevent genocide rather than have America being the only country to drain the blood of its young men and women. We do have a President who has led us out of near depression without any help from his Republican opponents. We do have a President who fought for appropriate health care for all of us. We do have a President who understands America is at heart an immigrant nation. What do Republicans have to offer but bluster, barriers, the blood of young Americans, and a bleaker future for all of us who are not among the wealthy?
Fuck the gawdamned pony.
Obama came to my house personally, looked me in the eye, and signed a contract in blood that, if I voted for him, he would deliver a magic unicorn that pisses a river of glitter, farts rainbows that smell like roses, and shits solid bricks of diamond-encrusted, 24K gold.
He has not delivered, and I will never vote for another LIEbrul again ever for the rest of my forever.
Rand Paul - Ted Cruz for 2016, baby. I’ve already got the name for my unicorn picked out: OBAMA’S BROKEN PROMISES. It’s gonna sweep the Triple Crown, too.
Do it Do it Do it. Ted Cruz can just say he didn’t do it…AGAIN.
Nonsense. That would require there actually to BE some leadership. We were told last year that it was unthinkable there would be a shutdown, because they learnt that less in the 1990s. We were told it was unthinkable that the GOP would threaten to not increase the debt limit. But they did both.
So don’t tell me the leadership “won’t allow” it to happen. The leadership is completely AWOL.
TPM: The third is the reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank, which financially supports the sale of U.S. exports abroad. Many Republicans want to shut down the bank, knocking it as a bastion of crony capitalism and corporate welfare.
Question: Since when is the GOP against crony capitalism and corporate welfare?
I thought that was their raison d’etre.
Depends whose cronies…
That is what Fox News, Rush and the rest of the Right Wing Wuritzer will repeat.
They are stooges for the Koch Brothers!
The leadership shut down any possibility of impeachment this year pretty goddamned quick. The Republicans know they can achieve more by controlling the Senate and they’re not going to do anything stupid to jeopardize that potentiality.
Just wait till the election is over. Then the Republicans in the House will vote out articles of impeachment!
No doubt. Especially if they control the Senate.
I done want a shutdown, because our economy takes a hit. However, if the Republicans have moved so far to the right that they are willing to shut the government down again one month before elections, then, please, proceed.
No doubt that Hispanic immigrant from Canada who pretends to be a Texan and is McCarthy incarnate tells them to, they will do it. I hope so, then Americans will give control of Congress to Dems and they will keep control of the Senate.
