Discussion for article #227088
Don’t over-think this. When the GOP shuts down the government again, they’ll just say that President Obama made them do it, to protect the American people. That way, they don’t have to justify their actions any further. Just watch it happen.
The House is still in the hands of the weakest Speaker of the House in several generation. He’s already shown the inability to control the nuts in his own caucas. If they whine enough he will cave into their idiotic demands. Stock up on supplies for a shut down is certainly a possibility coming from the clown show.
“When lawmakers return to Washington next Monday, a bitterly divided Congress will have just 10 scheduled working days to secure an agreement to avoid a shutdown.”
Ten work days, what a piece of crap these people are.And the GOP is supposedly going to keep the House and possibley take over of the Senate ? If that happens I don’t want to hear a peep of people complaining if they don’t get out and vote to stop this nonesense.
Look at the expressions on Boehner’s and Ryan’s faces. While I am not sure when the photo is from, they look like stooges, don’t they?
Guess they’re depending on past successes…
Oh …Never mind.
For a group of people who whine about other people being lazy, these Republicans never seem to be working, at all. What are the stats? Has there ever been a congress that’s worked fewer days than this one?
The GOP will not shut down the federal government one month before an election in which they believe they have a good chance to regain control of the Senate. Hell, just yesterday TPM ran a piece in which Ted Cruz dismissed the idea that the GOP would shut down the government over immigration. It’s not going to happen.
That’s what was said last year, and look what happened.
The GOP suffered a huge public backlash because of the shutdown and the leadership will not allow that to happen right before the mid-terms.
Ted dismisses the fact he instigated the last shut down.
Then I really, really really hope Obama does something big on immigration by executive order. Dare them to do it!
Does anyone still think the Bush Depression was happenstance?
“…until Congress returns…”
.crickets.
But Obama isn’t perfect and I’m still waiting for my pony. Where’s my pony Obama?
Why not do what go and join Edward Snowden in R.U.S.S.I.A.?
The deal to end the government shutdown last year didn’t involve spending cuts. And I’ll bet you benefit from many government programs. For example, this thing you are on right now-the Internet-arose from the US-government-funded DARPA and from a project at CERN (funded by European governments, with some US and other state involvement). No private company would have funded such a thing with no discernable payoff. None.
My pony came this week. Maybe you should lay in some oats, just in case.
Republicans, particularly Tea Party Republicans, are running out of excuses. For the last four years, all they have managed to show is that they cannot govern. They delude themselves with word games and stunts.
The hard and pragmatic truth is that we need two functioning parties. To get back to two functioning parties requires sending today’s failed Republicans home. The Republicans need to regroup and they need to get real. Today’s world (not the one of their fantasies) is getting complicated and moving very fast and too many Republican clowns are incapable of coping. That Darrel Issa, as just one example, has become a poster boy for the Republicans is an historical embarrassment.
What do you mean “might fail”? Boehner is such a freaking failure as a leader that it’s almost a freaking guarantee that the GOP will screw this up and will cause another government shutdown. When the time comes to pass a bill to prevent another shutdown, Boehner will drop the ball (again) and the teabaggers will stomp on it.
