Discussion: House Republicans Don't Want Dems Probing State-Level Voting Rights Issues

It’s weaponized daily Selma with them just on the wrong side.

Funny footnotes. Good catch. This is also a ‘cut and paste’ letter these 2 lightweights sent Trump accountant Mazars. Just changed a wee bit in the middle. Same bit and footnote with Rule X.

Thought the same. What about the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act of 1964-65. History is replete with examples of the Feds ‘encroaching’ on States voting when they screw it up.

Wow, a whole new level of pre-emptive republiscum attacks on a new Democrat House majority. I’ll be surprised these red states can withstand their efforts to block legitimate oversight. They may rue the day as the House could really hurt fundiing for these red states.

More importantly, Jordan and his creeps don’t realize or care that their intransigence now can be turned against them when and if they regain the majority. Telling only red state officials to ignore said efforts btw seems to violate another rule I’m a tad that cloudy on. It’s to do with treating one set of states differenlty than all. Can’t do IIRC.

It appears there were no subpoenas, but instead letters requesting information. That’s typically the first step. Only if the request is refused is it likely that a subpoena will issue.

Sounds like a bunch of republicans are beginning to get a little nervous about all the information coming our way someday soon.
time for some infrastructure funding, there very own GOP Prison.
remodeling Alcatraz would be a good place and Nancy could keep an eye on them.

I don’t think he can do more than offer an offical reprimand. Yet, that IIRC carries no weight and with dildos like Jordan will be promptly ignored. That’s why we need new committee rules, i.e. laws, with teeth to punish thse kinds of un-American actions. Throw them off the committee or have them jailed!

There was no subpoena issued to Mazars. Instead, as with the states, there was a letter requesting documents and information. That’s typically all that is needed. If the letter request is unsuccessful, a subpoena would be the logical next step.

No respectable Republican wants to hear about his inability to maintain an election. Fortunately, electile dysfunction is treatable. It’s called a paper ballot.

Because North Carolina could well be the tip of the iceberg and the GOP knows it.

Nothing says “out of power” like a strongly worded letter.

this isn’t child’s play, and he needs to stop treating state officials with kid gloves.

I think the supremacy clause says the US Congress can look into this. After all, certain states have to comply with provisions of the Voting Rights Act, not the federal government having to ask the states.

I very much hope the Democrats have an active plan for what to do if the lawless GOP members refuse to honor a subpoena: they have the power to send out the Sergeant at Arms and personally haul the defiers in front of the Committee, and they further have the power to imprison them via Contempt of Congress. But the Sergeant At Arms will need to be prepped, and they’ll need a media strategy as well. They should already be screaming and yelling, because it works for the GOP.

I am really looking forward to seeing many of these criminal scum going to prison starting in 2021.

It’s much more explicit:

“The times, places and manner of holding elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each state by the legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by law make or alter such regulations, except as to the places of choosing Senators.” - Article I, Section 4

The committee is reviewing specific state actions to determine whether it’s necessary for Congress to enact protective legislation.

Yes, keep those subpoena presses running!

Sorry, Gym Jordan, I imagine the state level voting officials will welcome the Democratic probe which is on behalf of all voters, whereas they resisted the fake voter fraud committee’s demand (GOP led) to turn over their voter rolls to them…
