I am not an expert on privilege. But it would seem that Trump’s discussing the issue of the citizenship question in front of the Press today (quaint word isn’t it, The Press) might be a waiver of the belated executive privilege claim. If it’s privileged then shut the fuck up don’t talk about it and advocate your fucking position then claim it is protected from scrutiny.
He confessed, there is no consequence because no one in the Republican Party will stand up to him, he will do it again. I am so sick of Republicans never being asked to hold this Republican POTUS accountable.
Oh for sure. He’s a convenient tool right now, and that’s the entire extent of it. Libertarians are as dangerous as the rest of the GOP, just in their own special way, but I’ll not look the gift horse in the mouth this time.
More of the thread and it is salty. I am utterly depressed that not one Republican will do or say a thing. They will run and hide and refuse to comment.
Can every Dem candidate please, please put this latest Trump outrage on a continuous loop on their websites and bring it up every damn time they appear in public. Please.
And can every Dem in the House and Senate do the same damn thing and force the bill requiring presidential candidates to disclose foreign contacts through, and use any delay or opposition of it against McConnell and Collins and every other R up for re-election in 2020.
its a question of how much information he provided. If he says “the letter did not say that”, the letter is no longer privileged, since he discussed what it contains. if he says “there is no truth to the allegations”, privilege probably would still apply, because nothing was actually disclosed.
As Rep. Ted Lieu pointed out on Hardball, under the Federal Election Campaign Act it is illegal for a candidate to take anything of value from a foreigner in an election campaign. So Trump basically said he would happily break the law if offered dirt on an opponent from a foreign government or agent. Because obviously it is something of value if it is worth it to take the info.
He only told Trump that the FBI Director says that the FBI should be contacted in such cases, which is very weak tea and suggests that this is just a minor tiff of disagreeing positions. Pathetic.
He also dodges the fact that the dirt was not just from a foreign power (and a rather adversarial one) but that it was based on hacked e-mails, which is not a legal means of obtaining opposition research. Trump is purely transactional. Anything that helps him is okay, even good. Anything that hurts him is bad, unfair, and should be illegal.
Cruising the twitterverse and hoping this is more than a one day or evening story. It is so unbelievably bad. I know there is no line Trump will not cross but maybe this time?
