Discussion: House GOP Pushes Through Bill To Avert Government Shutdown Without DACA Fix

“Five moderate Democrats voted for the bill,”

Let me be the first to thank them for yet again fucking everything up royally. This is now a bipartisan bill as far as the GOP propaganda machine and MSM are concerned. Spineless fucking assholes. They should be replaced in 2018.

If the House bill fails in the Senate, then there may well be enough votes in the Senate to add the Graham-Durbin DACA bill to it and send it back to the House. There would be more than enough votes for it on the House floor.

The GOP is very good at pulling shit out of their ass.

It is beyond shameless that the Congress of the United States can’t pass a long-term budget resolution. That is one of their principal jobs, after all. Proof once again that the GOP does not know how to govern, only how to oppose. We will have to wait until next January to get a real legislative body in place, it seems.

I don’t agree. I assume these Five had good reasons - District related - to do what they did. I would rather have them than Republicans representing their Districts. We can either embrace political diversity in the Democratic caucus, which will give us a chance to take control of the House, or we can demand Sanders-like left wing orthodoxy and stay in the minority.

Is it just me who would love to wipe that fucking smirk off his face?

They likely got the OK from Nancy to vote for the bill.

ETA: This is a short term extension. It is not some profile in courage.

Yeah, well their “good reasons” are no doubt their wish for re-election in a “tough” district, which they spinelessly placed above winning this fight. This is the House. They are up for reelection in 2018. The argument that we’d somehow be losing their seats to Republicans in the political climate that has built and continues to build for 2018 is ludicrous. “I’d rather them than a GOPer” is the knee-jerk response to what I said…the stock, conventional “wisdom” that drives our failures as a liberal movement…and it is inapplicable based on the current context. These 5 should be replaced with people who understand that part of the reason the GOP has been walking all over us for the past DECADE+ is because Dems like them are spineless fucking twits who fail to comprehend that a unified front is the only defense against the the creeping authoritarian plutocracy/oligarchy the GOP is installing in place of our democracy.

Moreover, it has nothing to do with “left wing orthodoxy.” I am not making an ideological policy argument or lambasting them for failing to espouse dogmatic policy positions or mouth the correct platitudes. Rather, I am making an argument about tactics and strategy. There is a world of difference.

This is no big deal. It got through the house because most of the freedumb caucus knuckled under which they always do. At the end of the day principle is not that important to them. Right now in the Senate there is not even 50 votes for this let alone 60. The Senate is always where the real fight will be. I do not believe this is going anywhere without CHIP and a deal on DACA. The Dems hold all the cards.
