That bill is dead
âSenate Democrats need to take this seriously and they need to not shut the government down,â Ryan said at a post-vote press availability. âDo not hold kids or the military hostage.â
sigh
âWeâve done our job. Weâve done it all year long. Whether it was passing repeal and replace or getting the tax bill through, or getting all the appropriations bills done. They [Senate] need to do some deep soul searching about how they can become a functional body,â Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK) told reporters after the vote.

Awesome. Canât wait for all the unnecessary drama to begin anew in 30 days. These guys (and gals) are freaking stable geniuses, every last one ofâem.
Can you explain what you mean, @inversion?
Iâm not up on all the parliamentary rules, but is there a reason why the Senate could not amend the House bill with the DACA language and send it back to the House?
Or did you just mean McConnell and/or Ryan wonât allow that to come to a vote? Or that Trump (supposedly) wonât sign it? (Iâm about 99% sure Trump would sign it, if the only other option is a Shutdown that might imperil his precious stock market numbers.)
If itâs just the latter, GOP intransigence, well sure thatâs their stated position. But thatâs the whole point of the brinkmanship on the Democratic side â to force the GOP leadership to allow the DACA protections (in whatever form) to come to a vote, with the dangling anvil of a Shutdown hanging over their heads if they donât.
JustâŚ.criminyâŚ
P.S. Who are the five f*cking Dems who voted for this?
Note to the Democratic leadership: my checkbookâs in play on this. Show some spine and Iâm a donor again in the fall (and anything that comes up in the meantime). Cave on this and Iâm going to have some extra money for that skiing vacation come snow time.
At the risk of becoming annoyingly repetitive, the message from Congressional Democrats â to their GOP colleagues in both houses, to the GOP leadership in both houses, and to President Trump â MUST be:
DACA deal, or go fuck yourselves.
Likely.
not only can Republican leadership not count on Democratic votes to keep the government open, they canât even count on the votes from their own rank-and-file members at this point.
Yes. Who are they and which districts do they represent?
It almost doesnât matter who the Dems are or how any of them vote.
some Republicans admit theyâll likely take the brunt of the blame as they hold unified control of the government.
OT, but did anyone watch Chris Matthews tonight? He is not my fave, and I donât make a point of watching him, but I was on the treadmill and so, I watched. Anyway, Chris went on and on about the âbarnburnerâ speech he saw Trump give today. Friggin Howard Fineman agreed with him! And then Matthews went on to say something along the lines that Dems are in trouble if we donât find someone who can stand up to the kind of speech that donnie gave today. I was just âŚ. likeâŚâare you f*cking kidding me, Chris???â WTFâŚ
If you havenât already contacted Senator Feinstein, I beseech you to please do so immediately!
At least as of a couple hours ago, Feinstein was reportedly one of the wafflers.
And she has NO excuse. Sheâs from California, for heavenâs sake!
I want to believe sheâs just biding her time and already intends to vote the right way. But just in case she needs some additional spine-stiffening, I hope her constituents are being loud and clear.
It matters to me.
Either him or Cecil, but I chose Ryan on account of immediacy n Trump.
Within reason, Cotton n Perdue are âdrivingâ this conversation now and they have Trumpâs blessings, because -â45â is likely recreating that Joe Mantegna 'talking outta turn" scene from House Of Games (i feel for Durbin having to be in the Lindsey Crouse role, but anyhow)
Back to Ryan and in this case, Meadows. Meadows has already stated that he isnât gonna support any bill that suggests amnesty n I donât see Ryan relying on leader Pelosi to save him, so why should the Speaker or the Majority Leader give life to a bill that will have a veto waiting on it.
No âbut muh bi-partisanshipâ either
Well, in fairness, Repubicans donât hold kids hostageâthey just starve 'em and stuff.
But Trump is a megazord Republican, just ask his supporters
Preach
Had to look that one upâquite an image! And probably pretty much how he sees himself.
Once again the politically incompetent Democrats fail to grasp that messaging is everything when dealing with the public because of their 60 second attention span. The Democrats should be saying these talking points over and over:
âAre we going to be voting on continuing resolution every month this January when the fiscal year started in October?â
âIf the Republicans cannot compromise a bill to fund the government after 3 months, why should we believe that next month is any different?â
âWe Democrats are united in voting no because we must say enough of this kicking the can down the road for the good of the country since the Republicans incompetence in governing is the root of the problem.â
âWhen we Democrats were the majority we governed with competence and kept the government running except the one time when the Republicans thew their temper tantrum and shut down the government because they wanted to repeal Obamacare.â
âThe Republican are good at opposing when in the minority, but bad at governing in the majority, so you citizenâs need vote and put the Republicans back in the minority where they can do some good.â
And so onâŚ
Notice nowhere did I mention Dreamer in any of the talking points to preempt the xenophobes talking points.
Duh - Because helping them in is implicit in any compromise!
So why expose the sausage making to the public when all they care is that the government is funded thru September?
