I disagree. Make it as hard as possible on the idiot brigade. No one will notice or care if the Dems just vote present, but I guarantee itāll be a big story and getting bigger by the hour if they have to stay in session for 48 hours or so until they can get a majority.

There are only 40 members in the Freedumb Caucus, all white, all male, and none with much seniority. They could not only stop McCarthy from being elected Speaker, they could prevent anyone from being elected.

Why not throw Dems support behind McCarthy in exchange for real reform that brings legislation to the floor that can get 218 votes regardless of the mix of Ds and Rs. Start with the easy stuff-debt ceiling, annual spending bills and move forward. The Speaker election is getting too close to comfort for the debt ceiling.
The strategy of embarrassing the Republicans is the wrong one. They have already reached absolute zero and their voters still vote for them. They canāt physically go any lower and if they could it would have no effect.

Thereās one large flaw in your thinking: the moment the Dems remove themselves from the equation, McCarthy gets elected speaker on a single ballot. Itās a simple majority, and heāll get that; so no shit-show stories or embarrassment for them. In fact, the story goes away quite quickly. Just pointing that out.

My fellow citizens, this is going to get very wicked is this election process to select the new gop speaker and it could put our country in a quagmire until these mentally challenged gop boys and girls grow up or get voted out of office.
