As a former Marylander, I agree. I have followed Elijah Cummings political career for a long time, and he is at his most powerful and influential in congressional leadership posts.

Mr. Cummings is 67, not too old for most endeavors a man might want to undertake (except in politics), but if we’re talking about Mr. Cummings as a viable candidate, I’ll throw out a couple of names of people who are in fact in the wings and from whom we’ll hear more as 2020 approaches: Eric Holder, also 67 and Deval Patrick, 61. The advantages both of these two would bring to a presidential race are enormous and evident. I know 2020 seems like light years away, but because political campaigns are now a well funded industry, serious campaigning will start about a year from now.

I love Elijah Cummings. He’s had some health problems recently & I don’t think it’s in his ambition to run for president.
What we really need to do is stop focusing os much on the presidency and recognize that lots of voices speaking from different positions in Congress- speaking loud and clear-- can do much good. We need 100 Elijah Cummings speaking out in Congress every day…

I’d like to see the Dems now connect this issue back to guns and the Republican’s role in creating the refugee crisis.
These people are fleeing organized gang violence. A huge proportion of the guns they use originate in legal purchases from gun shops in the US. Republicans block any effort to regulate those sales.
If they don’t like refugees showing up at the borders, perhaps they should quit selling guns to the people chasing them out of their homes.
