Discussion: House Dem Leadership To Barr: Cancel Your 'Inappropriate' Press Conference

Is it a coup yet? Seems pretty baked at this point.

Banana republicans.

Well, they are the Majoritarian party (Bolshevik)—by which I mean that they are not the majority.

The Attorney General should cancel the press conference

Probability: Somewhere between zero and nil.

Ain’t gonna happen. The stage is already set.

Agreed… probably the best we can hope for is that tRump pre-empts some of what Barr is going to say on Fox this morning.

Trump is full-on crazy this morning, but also, he may be signaling that prosecution of Hillary is coming soon.

Too bad the House didn’t get Mueller do a simultaneous press conference.

Yea, keep asking for republicans to do the right thing, I’m sure that one of these days if the Dems ask just nicely enough a republican will comply.

Ha ha who am I kidding. This is the most feeble sounding thing the dems have done in a while. Although it’s only 8:30 and I fully expect this entire day to be Dems playing ‘caught off guard reactions’ to Republicans on the offensive and sounding feeble so lets see if they can top this.

Well if he takes questions from the Press it might be interesting.

Press conference is standard procedure. Some people have cried wolf far too often. There should be a limit to how foolish the whiners can behave.

The point isn’t to get him to actually cancel. He is shameless and is a political operative.

The point is to let everyone know that it is just another part of his plan to cover Donald Trump’s ass at all costs. And I think it does that. And I think the Press Conference and the redactions will bear that out.

So, it sets a narrative. For those of us who were unpersuaded that a crazed assassin wearing Airport Maintenance worker overalls actually shot Benigno Aquino. For example.

Just subpoena the whole damn report.

We knew he’d go full battshit crazy today

Yes, I agree, but you know the old story: King Knut did not actually think he could control the tide, either, but his point was soon lost in translation. He is the one we all think was a fool.

When Democrats do this sort of thing, not everyone sees sharp political minds at work. Many people see this:

The fact that the Special Counsel and his team are nowhere to be seen speaks volumes

Well, if you do nothing, you validate the underhanded bullshit AND let Barr continue to set the Trump coordinated narrative. Lindsey Graham said the day after Barr’s initial “summary” that the WH was involved in the redactions process. The Media has let that slide, and has failed to follow up or investigate.

I do not know the story of King Knut. It was not one of the stories read to me in my PR/Italian household. Nor did I read it myself when I took out a Grimm Brothers Anthology from the Library when I was 8. I do know the story of The Boy Who Cried Wolf. I do not think that pointing out that the Presser is total political operative spin, directly or less directly, is a waste of time.

Yes, and did the Democrats hold a press conference over it?

Will asking Barr to cancel his press conference do anything to take control of the narrative?

In a nutshell:

[Knut] is popularly invoked in the context of the legend of King Canute and the tide, which usually misrepresents him as a deluded monarch believing he has supernatural powers, contrary to the original legend which portrays a wise king who rebuked his courtiers for their fawning behaviour.

No. Standard procedure would be to release the report, then go before the press to make a statement and answer questions about the report. This “press conference” is an exercise in pre-obfuscation. And as I write at 9:35 EDT, here it comes…
