In the early 70s there was this Dominican Merengue that got radio play in PR where the chorus was something like “Mmmmm, Canuto, mientras mas viejo, mas bruto.” I have been unable to find it on Youtube this morning in a cursory search.
I am less cultured than you, and this was the extent of my familiarity with the name Canute. I had pretty much avoided it for almost 64 years!!!

Actually, I think I had encountered it in my mid-30s.
I think Donald Barthelme used it in one of his short stories. He used it sarcastically, as a name for a modern, US based character. Like he would occasionally use the name Vercigentorix for a modern, US based character. He was a tremendous wiseass, Donald Barthelme. And I tended to like wiseass writers in my early to mid 30s. Harlan Ellison was another total wiseass.
Speaking of wiseasses, I am de-salting a big Penca de Bacalao this morning and afternoon while I avoid listening to the Barr Presser. To render a hommage to my Bacalao on Friday parents, and to my repressed Catholic culture so that I can abstain from meat today and tomorrow. I suggest that instead of proving how assimilated and Anglicized you are by name dropping some Nordic named Canute, on me, * moi*, Yo, Io, you try next time to name drop me some archaic Spanish names. Like Urraca. Or Inigo. Not to digress, but in Junior High we had a Spanish classmate whose parents named him Jesus Maria. We used to call him Jesus Mary, or Jesusin which we then Anglicized after a couple of years to Jusism.

I think it’s pretty obvious by now that whatever ongoing investigations Mueller had, those were nipped in the bud by Barr and the whole thing was shut down, just as trump wanted. Although there are many unethical and compromised sycophants in this administration, Barr the Fixer is one of the few competent ones. He’s successfully covered up presidential crimes before. This is the reason he’s there.
