It is going to be a long (not quite) two years of stories like this, and the refusals to cooperate.
Hopefully they’ll have their Sternly Worded Letter ready to go. Then we can get straight to the House being given the finger, rather than waiting a few weeks first.
At this point, we should have our form letter all ready and waiting.
Nadler will have to do something severe about the inevitable rebuffing he’ll shortly receive. I bet he goes after them, hard. In a week. Or two. Or ten.
He might even hold a press conference, or go on Meet the Press. That will show 'em.
What’s the possibility of the House establishing a new investigation to more broadly investigate the abuses of power, failures to take necessary action, and outright crimes of this administration? I heard talk about that at times when Mueller’s firing seemed imminent. It would seem to be necessary here if they keep stonewalling.
I have major issues with the language Dems use in these sternly worded letters. They use ambiguous language such as “ the President may have removed DHS officials because…” or “we are concerned by reports of”, these are words of weakness and uncertainty.
Instead, they should accuse the President of doing these things of which we know he did and not subscribe any ambiguity to it. “We are concerned that the President removed DHS officials because they refused to follow his orders to break the law”. State the offense as if it’s proven and verifiable. Make them prove otherwise. Put them on the defensive. So frustrating!
This administration is determined to break the law so that it no longer functions. The constitution means nothing to them. Federal laws mean nothing to them. They’re on a mission to destroy the very foundations of this entire nation.
And the GOP is just fine with that.
Fuck 'em all.
With a pitchfork.
Does that mean doing the letter in all caps, or just bold, so they’ve still got their powder dry?
The way I see it happening is in a short, yet respectable, period of time, a specific stonewalling results in a “we have no choice moment” where we wake up in morning, and NP, having listed the myriad abuses, declares that impeachment proceedings will commence, at which point no one, not even the mainstream press will be surprised.
Quite possible, if not probable. However, judging from the abuses of power from this WH stemming from these current investigations, Dems in the HOR are going to need a much bigger stick if they hope to accomplish anything of value.
So, you see NP’s current strategy as simply giving this Admin enough rope to hang themselves?
The DOJ will not act. Leadership is irredeemably corrupt. So Perhaps the ultimate goal of impeachment will be to reveal the truth, which is a kind of “justice.” Perhaps not the kind we want, but will at least be appreciated by historians.
Elizabeth Drew says they have to impeach, and that history will be unkind if they don’t. I’ve been of the why-rush school but she’s a voice I have a tremendous respect for, and she literally wrote the book on rogue presidents and the efforts needed to deal with them.
I do. I think she wants to be able to say: “As you know, I didn’t want this, but things have turned out against it.”
It was a brilliant strategy when dealing with the Bundy family. Twice.
OK, what would YOU do in his place?
Remember, it must be within his constitutional powers to do what you want him to do.
Republicans: No, and whatta you gonna do about it.
Dems: Say “please”?
Republicans: No
This show is gonna get old real quick.
No.
I see NP’s current strategy as building inevitable majority convictions amongst the voters that this criminal regime must be stopped.
