I don’t know the specifics of the districts that the Main St. Partnership Republicans like King or Dent represent, but given that they seem to be relatively open in their opposition to the Teanuts, it wouldn’t surprise me if some of them represent districts that aren’t as hard-right as those that have elected Teanuts. Which means it’s very possible that a Teanut Bircher GOP candidate in some of those districts might be a hard sell to the electorate in that district, especially in a Presidential year, meaning a Dem could replace them.

Actually, no. Many of these seats are primed for Democratic pick-ups, and only remain in GOP hands because of a long-serving, seemingly “moderate” (in comparison) GOPer who benefits from name recognition. There are dozens of House districts held by Republicans that Obama won twice, and others that Obama won in 2008 and barely lost in 2012.

We Might Quit!

They won’t. All those whimpers called “GOP moderates” have done is just crying wolf.

There’s nothing moderate about that tie.

I’ve posted it before, but it is such a brilliant graphic it deserves another look. What the GOP calls “Moderate” today is not moderate at all.

Only in the alternate universe that is the Republican Party is Paul Ryan a moderate.

This is my go-to list of Congressional seats and how they fared in 2008 and 2012. King’s district went to Obama both years, and Dent’s went to Obama in 2012.

Dent’s district is very purple. It is likely that if the seat was open it would go to a Democrat. I think several of the other remaining moderates are the same. What they are basically saying to the Tea Party is, give us what we want or we will hand the House over to the Democrats.

With the GOP it’s hard to tell when something is courageous and when it’s personal responsibility. Which is this?

“Moderate Republicans to Quit”

All three of them?

Here’s the problem: They can work with Democrats all the want, but if they get some teabagger Speaker, it won’t mean a damn thing because he (and it’s likely to be a he) won’t bring those bills up for a vote. The other option is to support a Democrat for Speaker. The problem with that is that it would almost certainly lead to a primary challenger who would beat them anyway. I do not envy the situation they put themselves in.

Yep, one way or another…If they revolt and support a Democrat for Speaker, they’ll retire or lose their seat anyway and it will almost certainly go to a Democrat. If they retire, their seat will almost certainly go to a Democrat. Shoot, for some of these guys, if Republicans nominate a crazy person who pushes through a bunch of tea bagger legislation, their seat will go to a Democrat.

The whole point of obtaining that power is to cash in when it reaches its maximum sale value. They are starting to think that point may be approaching. They only have value as lobbyists so long as there are people left in Congress who will listen to them. If the TPers refuse to be swayed by the establishment lobbyists, then who will be willing to pay those lobbyists? THAT is what scares them more than anything else.

This is the time I especially wish for journalists instead of stenographers.

In the Old Days (B.R…Before Reagan), leading anchors of national news programming used to take time to give editorials.

Granted there is the idea of people who are misinformed.

But to be UN-informed?

Given how noncompetitive most House seats are, a mass retirement is a mass quitting. And would be a serious capitulation by the Establishment.

Its a very hamfisted attempt to bring pressure on Ryan (who I still say is not well suited for this job,and obviously doesn’t want it) to enter the race.

And nothing changes. The TPers will still not back Ryan making any deals with Peolsi or the White House (or probably even McConnell at this point). So they are right back where they started before Boehner resigned, except now the TPers feel more emboldened.

Talk of “retiring” in mass will only make them drool more. And quite possibly toss the Majority back to use ahead of schedule.

Remember, lobbyists get paid to lobby about specific issues. If the specific issues get resolved, they don’t get paid until a new specific issue arises.

Gridlock is a gold mine for lobbyists.

It is a scientific fact that King, etal, cannot utter the name Pelosi, without anaphylaxis setting in.

Really. I’m old enough to remember Nelson Rockefeller, Pierre DuPont.

And big warchests. That’s the biggest bar to entry for someone challenging an incumbent in the House.

Wait, there are three?
