Hirono also criticized Collins’ claim that Blasey Ford’s allegations had not been corroborated.
“There was corroboration, because she had talked about this assault to her husband, to others, before Brett Kavanaugh was ever nominated to the Supreme Court,” Hirono said. “She took a lie detector test. Corroboration was there.”
Collins meant Republican corroboration.
Susan Collin thinks she can get away with mocking Ford in the same way that Trump did at that rally. Both of them are bullies and are deluding themselves thinking decent people don’t care.
I guess one painful silver lining to this awful episode is Collins’ mask has been ripped off, to reveal the hard partisan she is, ever-loyal to Mitch, “democracy’s gravedigger.”
Maine Moderate, my ass, to borrow from Steve Schmidt.
Good for Hirono.
Glad this point is being made. It’s patronizing and cruel to tell a crime victim she only thinks the attacker was this person she knew in a social set she was familiar with. He didn’t come out of the bushes with a damn mask on. And every thinking adult knows that trauma has a large effect on your memories. It’s just incredibly brazen—you might as well tell her, “Hey, you can’t prove it, so you’re out of luck. Now get out.” And anyway, let’s shake off this fascination with the multiple accusations of sexual assault. He provably lied under oath repeatedly.
and it damn well better come full circle after the election and he suffers the consequences for it.
hopefully
Yeah, the only kind that counts.
To quote myself:
I think folks are mistaken if they think Collins matters. In a Citizens United world, congresspeople are disposable tools of the rich.
Collins’ career is meaningless. We gain practically nothing by ending it. The Kochs or like-minded plutocrats will supply a replacement immediately, using the loose change from the couch a private jet. Once installed, they’ll compel their puppets to take whatever position is needed to defend their libertarian strain of capitalism from democracy, no matter how unpopular.
People like Collins no longer get to decide which hill is worth dying on.
(Of course, we should vote Collins out. But it’s no silver lining.)
November 7th is my birthday. I want a nice blue wave for my birthday. Brett Kavanaugh is this Republican congress’ Terry Schiavo moment. They’ve gone too far.

This would suggest that these complaints came from people who were in a position to know the facts about his time in the Bush administration, which in turn suggests this may have come from his former colleagues, or people in position to give first hand testimony that Kavanaugh committed perjury.
Cecily Strong hit it spot on last night.
This episode has got me thinking about memory. As far as I can recall, my earliest is of watching Jimmy Carter giving his July 15, 1979 speech with my parents. I read through the speech this morning. He really hit the nail on the head. I’d like to see the next Democratic candidate really bear hug this instead of having to harken to Ronald Reagan.
The media can no longer celebrate her as a moderate—or at least not in good faith. That is hardly meaningless. And she was the deciding vote to put Kav over the edge—as a Senator representing Maine, no less. Hardly meaningless (I agree with Josh and others that it was significant Manchin only crossed once his vote didn’t matter). Hardly meaningless.
Again, republicans tell us which reality we should accept and which version is “fake news”. We now live in the world according to the GOP. Our eyes and ears are no longer to be trusted. We may “believe” things happen, but until republicans validate and approve it, it’s just hearsay and speculation. I’m sure Ms. Ford is grateful to Collins for clearing up all that confusion about who assaulted her.
All that huddling the “moderates” did before the vote? They were agreeing on this story: “Ford was pitiful and sad but really just confused.”
All the Republicans are state-run media are now echoing this lame cover-up excuse. This is what we’ll keep hearing from them forever.
On the other hand, sexual assault victims hear more confirmation that if they come forward, all the ® powers that be will stomp her down and call her crazy. Don’t get in the way of their lust for power, or you will be crushed.
Collins has to be the number one target for the Democratic party next time she is up for election. If it takes everything the Democrats can muster to defeat her they have to spend the resources.
I say this because she is utterly feckless and without a shred of integrity. She claims to be pro-choice, but she just put an anti-choice hack on the Supreme Court and lied to us in the process. She simply lacks integrity.
Another agreed-upon response: Let’s restrict the investigation, ignore all the evidence, then shrug our shoulders and insist they couldn’t find any evidence of corroboration with Ford’s or Ramirez’s stories.
Just as we’ve been hearing trumpsters bleating about no evidence of collusion in the Russia investigation, we’ll be hearing this one forever too. They think it’s a strong argument.
LOL. Oh, I get it — Hirono thinks Collins cares if Kav sexually assaulted an underage girl and repeatedly perjured himself. Hahaha — good one, Senator Hirono!
When you see Susan Sarandon, Nina Turner, Jill Stein and their likes, thank them for giving us Justices Neil Gorsuch and Bret Kavanaugh.
