2008 Hillary would never have said that, that way. A lot of people are deeply emotionally invested in not noticing, but Hillary has added her own rather Obama-like, ahem, Bucket List, at least at the campaign communication level.
The Clinton Rules will alway apply, meaning her relationship with the press will always be poisonous. She is always going to have the awkwardness that comes with having to act like a gregarious glad-hander when that’s not who you are about her. But all the crap that drove me crazy about her 2008 campaign has been absent from this one, so far, as have all the most toxic “old Clinton hands” to the extent those aren’t just two ways of saying the same thing.

Really. She can’t afford more than 144 characters of reaction. I am glad she spoke up but tweeting is so lazy.
This case touches on so many fundamental issues in our country today: racism, education, science, over-zealous law enforcement that you would think she might want to say something more meaningful than fits in a tweet. Trump is basing his vile and racist immigration policy (that would affect the lives of tens of millions of people) on the anecdote of one person- a young pretty white girl who got murdered by 1 fucked up undocumented immigrant from Mexico. Clinton would be well advised to come up with the counter narrative based on some real people–innocent (if not exceptional) children put in danger because of screwed up policies and even screwier social values.

If she can’t get the country to focus for more than 3 seconds on this sickening incident, then how the hell are you going to be President. Don’t get me wrong. It is good she has come out in support of him so quickly, but there is a lot more to be said. There is a lot more that she could say to show the country who she is and what she is made of.
