Discussion: Hillary Clinton Says She's 'Done With Being A Candidate' But Not With Politics

She called the election “a reality show”

One the media created, long before 2016. Certainly lots of blame and lots of errors made, but more broken than the government is this country’s political press, not sure how that can be fixed.

I just saw the CBS Sunday Morning segment. It was very good.

I think Hillary can do a lot of good working behind the scenes, so to speak, on issues that resonate deeply to her.

With Hillary and Obama, we’re lucky to have two thoughtful, intelligent, and highly respected elder statesmen who can still put their imprint on America.

They would be great counterweights to the Kochs, Bannons, and Mercers of the world in terms of putting forth a progressive agenda.

Especially when the MSM keeps denying their role in the election of Donny Two Scoops.
That’s infuriating.

The great tragedy of Hillary Rodham Clinton in a nutshell: She was a very bad candidate who would have made a very good President.

Bad candidate – first and foremost, because it was very obvious from watching her that she didn’t like being a candidate. She is not comfortable or natural on the campaign trail, very much unlike her husband. Her worst qualities stand out, while her best qualities seem to duck and hide from the spotlight.

Good President – well, by contrast even a baloney sandwich would be an improvement over the current occupant, but HRC has the experience and the temperament to truly shine in the difficult world that we find ourselves in. Sure, she would have been under constant assault from day one by the rabid right, but her capability to handle those bozos is well proven by now.

This is a failing of our modern political system as much as anything else: the things it takes to get the job are largely and increasingly unrelated to the things it takes to do the job.

You’re right, philosophically speaking, but…

Prez O & Hillz are light about $$$36 BILLION in fungible investment assets.to help their party

Couldn’t agree more. That’s because the calm, thoughtful temperament needed to be president is exactly the opposite of what the media - and now the public of course - thrives on. The two guys who were speechwriters for Obama talk about how it took him a long time to realize he HAD to do soundbites, etc., as much as he hated it, to gain any attention as a candidate. It went against every fiber of his being.

Just the political system? But then again, we are the greatest meritocracy in in the world - aren’t we?? Oh, wait,

Very true.

But they have something that the plutocrats don’t have. A “q” rating that’s through the roof. They don’t need billions to get their message out because the media automatically flocks to them. That’s the thing about being an ex-President and ex-Senator and Sec. of State. It’s like America’s version of royalty.

Moreover, most people respect and admire them because they’ve devoted their entire lives to public service and making America a better and fairer place…as opposed to the plutocrats who operate from a very cynical perspective.

It’s very, very difficult being a good candidate while being female because you know every word, movement, piece of clothing, etc., will be put under a microscope, and it didn’t help to have certain MSM let donnie’s shortcomings go and instead concentrated on hers. .

They are still carrying water for him, pretending that he’s normal.

I just want to grab those people by the neck and squeeze hard enough so that their pharynx prolapses through their nostrils.

I gave money to her and voted for her, butttttttt…

There is an arrogance there that she deserves the Presidency. She had so much opportunity to win in 2008 and 2016. She had all the advantages. Both times, Clinton should have appropriated the themes of her opponents, because that is what the public wanted. Single payer health care is what she wanted in 1994. Clinton could have doubled down on that, but she shied away while running for President. It was the perfect opportunity to highlight her ability to predict the future, yet she chose not to, so only us olds are aware of it. The people who watch the Kardashians needed that education on Hillary, but all they got was a scattered mess of wonkery.
She had a litany of positions that nobody knew about. Because the voters were supposed to read about them. Seriously? Read? That’s a bridge too far in our society for 60% of voters. She campaigned in AZ. Why? By chasing the landslide, the political rocks fell on her. Bad decision. To all those who thought she would be an excellent President, I saw no historical evidence for that conclusion based on her 2016 campaign.

I saw Trump get off of planes to throngs of people. Sure it was staged, but that is a major part of a Presidential campaign. You barely ever saw Hillary on the news, because her campaign didn’t generate any news. TGEY DIDNT FEED THE MEDIA BEAST.

What’s the point of this book tour? Clinton is yesterday. She should know that. It’s taking up air space that Chuck and Nancy could use. Once again, it’s all about Hillary. The Clinton machine.

It’s insufferable.

I’ll never forget when my boss brought in a Harvard MBA to help the two of us with the Business Side, looking forward to learning soooo much about management from this former Controller of a major company. Found out that in a few years in the School of Hard Knocks after my technical degrees and in watching a busin ess actually run I was teaching him about our niche.
He mentioned his fine family background.
“Legacy”, I thught immediately.
Dweeb.
Charged the $%^& out of us too.
Edit: One thing I did discover, he never quit scheming or looking for angles. Could see how that would come in handy.

Well, chacun à son goût. You feel what you feel, but I see that your confidence in the electorate to make wise choices in selecting leaders is as low as mine is.

It is a failing of the system…but the fault lies with the failing of the voters…and non-voters. What we get with Trump is what we all saw during the campaign. There have been no surprises…zero. It should not have been even close in WI, MI or PA

Half the country mistakes television for reality.

If they don’t see it on the tee-vee, then it didn’t happen, period.

They’re trapped in a self-feeding Matrix-like delusion – oblivious and comfortably numb.

It medicates a powerlessness they (erroneously) feel in their personal lives, offering quick and easy escapism.

And that suits Wall Street, Madison Avenue, and the White-Victim Industrial complex just fine.

Newton Minow was a pie-eyed optimist.
