Discussion: Hillary, Bill Clinton Earn More Than $139M Between 2007-14

Discussion for article #238985

So how much did Jeb!, Trump, and any of the others earn over a seven year period?

Scrambling for headlines. The NYT is a nest of skunks, and TPM should not be giving them more publicity than they deserve.

Nineteen million a year for two high profile professionals together is some kind of crime? Who has ‘envy’ of ‘success’ now?

Reminds me of people who were furious when my partner and I both got university positions. Catty remarks about “How are the two salaries?” were constant; or “My wife and I didn’t make that much money when we got out of school.”

It’s worth pointing out that it’s less what was posted yesterday that Bill O’Reilly makes ($46 million per year; $18 million from Fox and $28 million in book royalties).

This story was written by Stephen Braun of the AP. Aim your fire at him. Get pissed off at this, however: Jeb! has raised $120 million from PACs, more than anyone else and double that of HRC at $67.8 million.

I put this up yesterday about Billo from a Google search

From 2009 to 2013 his salary with Fox increased to $15 Million per year. In 2013 and 2014, following his latest contract negotiation, O’Reilly made $18 million per year. In 2014 he also earned $28 million in book royalties. Bill’s total net worth is estimated to be between $70-$85 million.Feb 15, 2015

Does that take them out of the 1% and put them into to the poverty level? Don’t some CEO’s make that much before their first martini? Poor things that little bit of money won’t even begin to keep them in houses and would they even be able to afford an elevator for their cars? They won’t even be able to buy their granddaughter a horse with all the “accessories” that will be needed for her to go to the Olympics.

Thank God the dems have someone who understands what it means to be middle class. HRC went threw some rough times. I mean, I heard she barely could live after leaving the white house.

Crime pays.

These thugs have swindled over $2 Billion from worldwide donors and then they launder the dough through rackets that are in fact safety nets and ladder rungs for the most needy on the world. This is The Philanthropic Industrial Complex, near cousin to its more famous Complex that Ike warned us about, and it remains to be seen if ploughshares and butter are more effective than swords and guns when it comes to changing the world for the better.

The Colorado Rockies just got rid of their shortstop, Tulowitski, that earned $20 mil a year and has been hurt for half a season for years. Not to mention the Rockies are basically always fighting for last place.
The point is, we get a hell of a lot more from the Clintons than a baseball player contributes for 15 % or so less, especially one that missed half the year and isn’t guiding the team to wins. The Clintons are a bargain, are helping the nation by paying taxes and giving to charities.

That the Clintons, after what, 40 or 50 years of service are making their money shouldn’t upset anyone. I make a lot more now than I did in the early years of my career too and easier.

I was just watching some Hillary speeches from yesterday I think and the idea that she will be beholden only to special interests looks ridiculous if you listen to what she’s saying. She is going to grab the baton from Barack and run hard uphill with it.

She left the WH in the first days of 2001. What part of the 2007 to Present Financial Disclosure would give you the impression that it contains information from 2001???

They did leave the White House with relatively little money, and found quite a few suckers willing to pay them big bucks just to give a speech. 15 years later, they’ve gone from having a dangerous balance sheet to tremendously rich. Sounds like traditional American entrepreneurship to me. And they pay actual taxes on it to boot (35%).

(a) There is the mess created by Citizens United

(b) There is no Public Financing of campaigns

The fact that the Clinton story will attract more attention and evoke more indignation than (a) and (b) above says that we have both a boatload of dummies in our body-politic and a bunch of shills calling themselves “journalists”.and “publishers”

What crime do you refer to?

That’s just bullshit.
And it stinks on ice.

Their earlier tax returns are already public record from her Senate elections and Bill’s gubernatorial and presidential elections.

Their total tax bite—local, state, and federal—amounted to about 45% of their total income.

Note: Neither Bill nor Hillary inherited money.

Her Mother was able to give Hillary a clear picture of what it means to be dirt poor.

An AP hit piece, really? Let’s take an average Texas CEO such as Greg Armstrong, head of Plains All American Pipeline, who takes home about $5 million a year even in years when he’s destroying and soiling priceless coastline or endangering the public. With a power CEO wife, he’d be making about the same as the Clintons, but giving a lot less to charity. That’s just boss wages these days. Real power CEOs such as David Zaslav of Discovery Communications, parent company of Discovery Channel, make more than $160 million a year, or more than what this whole story is about. So WTF, TPM? Why reprint this?

The Clintons are just a political product, a brand. The real money is in packaging and promoting the brand or controlling the actual means of production of tangible and intangible technologies.

Her father gave her a clear picture of what it meant to be a cold, sometimes abusive republican father.
