Discussion for article #237778
Once we get all of the Confederate symbols removed, the only task remaining will be to rid ourselves of those who continue to cherish them.
I just love dominoes. Itâs my⌠favorite game.
Democratic nominee Jack Conway, state attorney general, said he agreed with Haleyâs call to remove the flag but said he would have to think about whether to remove the Davis statue.
WellâŚwhat do you knowâŚ!
Removing âsymbolsâ of officially condoned hate and oppression is good, but removing the actuality of it is much better. When GOP state officials in the north as well as south concede that voter ID laws are really intended to suppress minority vote, and they revoke these laws, only then will I take notice.
And to think itâs only taken 150 years or so!
Sadly Missouri isnât considering removing Rush Limbaughâs statue.
No word from Georgia? Their state flag is the ACTUAL flag of the Confederacy!
Official flag of the Confederacy:
Georgia state flag:
Add Kansas to that list:

And Kansas was a free state for fucks sake.
Ah, the perfect being the enemy of the good⌠a liberal tradition.
The heritage part of the argument for flying the flag in almost all contexts is bumkiss. But I can think of two instances here in Texas where I donât necessarily think the confederacy needs to be erased from our memory. One, at the Bob Bullock Museum of Texas History, outside the lobby, they fly the six flags of Texas: Spain, France, Mexico, Republic of Texas, United States, and the Confederacy (the actual flag of the Confederacy, not the battle flag). Texas has a history of being governed under six different flags, and within the context of the other five flags, I do not find the Confederate flag offensive. They arenât flying it to make a statement any more than they are flying the French flag to make a statement (especially since it is the flag of the Louis XIV).
Along the same lines, the Texas capital has the coat of arms of the six governments that ruled over Texas prominently displayed under the dome. Again, this is the coat of arms, not the battle flag, so I think the history argument works a lot better there.
I guess to me, it all depends on context. SC flying the flag by itself in front of the capitol? Highly inappropriate. The flag flying as one of a set of flags, doesnât bother me that much. Below is the display of the flags at the history museum in Austin.
We also need to totally change the culture of our police departments. Until those groups stop their terrorist activities against African Americans we will not have made any significant progress.
You folks are a little Eastern-centric.
Here in Clark County, WA, there is an uproar over a confederate monument, believe it or not:
Too bad they arenât also talking about gun control and background checks tooâŚ
Canât help but feel that a lot of this talk is just thatâŚtalk.
We shall see.
Although many of its citizens wish so. They had to install security cameras to curb vandalism of that fat fuckâs face.
Neither KY nor MD were even part of the Confederacy, for peteâs sakeâŚ
The GOTP was so paranoid about the gobmit cominâ to take their gunsâŚha! While they was lookinâ the other way, they took their FLAG!! god, I love this countryâŚ
Here Are All The Places Looking To Drop Their Confederate Symbols
But with Wal Mart pulling all confederate flag motif merchandise from their shelves, how will Rebel Gurl express herself at the beach?
Whatâs the deal with the bird on the left? Câmon, no tramp stamp?
Sheeeeesh.
There will be more of this, road names and military bases are obvious but there are symbols of the civil war almost everywhere.
It was an act of treason in and of itself and was over slavery (the owning of human beings and mistreatment of them).
Now that the damn has broke, the lake of hatred must be fully drained.
Yeah, but itâs a big lake.
