Discussion: Head Of Duggar-Aligned Ministry Faces Sexual Assault Lawsuit

It’s a bizarre notion, isn’t it? They seem to think that religion invented ethical behavior, rather than simply codifying the innate ethics that evolution provided us with. If humans didn’t have an instinctive drive to watch out for each other, the species would never have survived.

And that’s why we’re puzzled by psychopaths and sociopaths. It isn’t because the rest of us have learned to be ethical - it’s because we have trouble imagining how someone could shut off the inherent ethical instincts that most of us share.

Perhaps because it’s REALLY heinous disgusting people that hide behind christianity, or any other religion for that matter. I don’t think they’re looking for redemption as much as they are taking advantage of trusting prey.
These scum don’t worship anything but their own sick desires.

Just another card carrying NRA member and devout Republican right wing Christian. I’m sure this dude is very close to Mike Huckabee.

What is wrong with the Learning Channel featuring a family of misfits like the Duggars and their very close friend Mike Huckabee.

None of these people have actual faith, because they’re not doing “anything”. As Granny Weatherwax would say:

“Right. Right. That’s people for you. Now if I’d seen him,
really there, really alive, it’d be in me like a fever. If I thought
there was some god who really did care two hoots about people, who
watched ‘em like a father and cared for ‘em like a mother…well, you
wouldn’t catch me sayin’ things like ‘there are two sides to every
question’ and ‘we must respect other people’s beliefs.’ You wouldn’t
find me just being gen’rally nice in the hope that it’d all turn
out all right in the end, not if that flame was burning in me like an
unforgivin’ sword. And I did say burnin’, Mister Oats, ‘cos that’s what
it’d be. You say that you people don’t burn folk or sacrifice people
anymore, but that’s what true faith would mean, y’see? Sacrficin’ your
own life, one day at a time to the flame, declarin’ the truth of it,
workin’ for it, breathin’ the soul of it. That’s religion. Anything else is just…is just bein’ nice. And a way of keeping in touch with the neighbors.”

Gothard is the doppleganger for The Reverend Carl Pathos (and like most of his ilk, has the soul of The Reverend Cash). Expertly played by Jim Carrey and Damon Wayons. Combine these two characters and you get Bill Gothard.
Undoubtedly, the “laying on of hands” was emphasized by Gothard’s ministry and pedoDuggar Josh undoubtedly got an A+ in his quick mastering and his expert use of it.

Huckabee Linked to Controversial Bible Teacher Bill Gothard

Presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee has ties to a controversial Bible teacher known for authoritarian views that critics say border on spiritual abuse.

Most Americans never heard of Chicago-based teacher Bill Gothard until newspapers wrote about Colorado church shooter Matthew Murray’s 2006 Internet rant about growing up under strict homeschool teaching developed as part of Gothard’s Institute in Basic Life Principles.

That piqued attention to a photo of Huckabee and Gothard together at a Houston fund-raiser posted to a family blog of a Gothard disciple.

The Cincinnati Beacon described Huckabee as a “long-time admirer” of Gothard. The former Arkansas governor wrote a letter used by Gothard to promote a program aimed at infiltrating city governments with core principles of the ministry stripped of overt religious references.

“As a person who has actually been through the Basic Seminar, I am confident that these are some of the best programs available for instilling character into the lives of people,” Huckabee wrote in a letter promoting Gothard’s prison ministry. Arkansas prisons had been using Gothard seminars and materials since 1996.

Huckabee also endorsed Gothard’s “Character Cities” program. Gothard described a meeting in Little Rock as laying groundwork for “the most exciting opportunity I can imagine” to merge his institute’s teachings with government programs.

They NEVER heard of any their heroes when they get caught with their hands in the cookie jar. And it’s not just religion. Remember Tom DeLay’s “Jack who?,” when his buddy Abramoff got nailed?

Gothard was NOTORIOUS as a religious kook too extreme for many in the Religious Right.Whenever people demand of me "Well, what harm does Christianity do?’ This guy is somewhere on my list of examples. He railed against ALL forms of contraception, even the Rhythm Method so popular among Catholics cause it doesn’t work. He denounced ALL forms of Rock N Roll, even Christian Rock. I denounced Christian Rock too but for matters of taste, not Holy Writ.

The only people more familiar than Skyplots with Gothard’s name were cops in the Sexual Crimes Units of the local police department.

“One unnamed plaintiff also alleged that Gothard raped her after she reported to the ministry that she had been raped by her father, according to the report.”

Nice guy. Probably some sort of Christian counseling not legitimate rape.

The Rev. Hucksterbee’ invariably shows up in the pics with this self-righteous, depraved and base Christian scum. Running cover for sexual predators and rapey creepsters is kind of Huckabee’s specialty. He’s the de facto TEAliban Pope.

#Hey Huck’! YOU grifting, scummy POS, YOU are know by the company YOU keep.

His teachings—which rely upon absolute submission to patriarchal authority

That is why he can claim that he did nothing… his word, a mans word, against a second class servant…the mans word is always truthful while the servant is always fanciful.

He is an upright man, so clearly those evil women tempted him to sin. There’s a version of patriarchy that says women are all-powerful because they can inflame men with desire, and only by making women submit absolutely to men can that terrible power be tamed.

Generally doesn’t work out very nicely.

It’s obvious that these “Christian therapists’” approach the chastity issue by advocating that girls save themselves for their therapists.

“I’ll take ‘The rapists’ for $200, Alex!”

Well they both a Reverends…isn’t that enough.

He’s 81, has never been married, and never in his life has touched a girl sexually?

So . . . is he gay, or asexual?

And what the hell was he doing for all those years, running an organization that instructed others on how marriage ought to work?

"For all those folks who constantly say I have no morality because I’m an atheist "

I never understood that argument, even in catechism class. Morality (a sense of right/wrong) was around long before ‘faith’ and most likely kidnapped by organised religion.

All these scummy, bottomfeeding Xtians inevitably use their “Get Out of Jail Free” card: “I have sinned against you, muh’ Lord! The Lord has forgiven me! I am now a better man.”

You can rape as many kids as you want, commit as many foul deeds as you please, and still, as you clutch your bible and moan into the camera, proclaim that you’re a better person now for the trials YOU have been through…oh, and mention Jesus over and over. The flock will then bleat it’s forgiveness and, often, blame the victims even as they weep for the ‘godly’ perpetrator they follow.
