Discussion: Hastert Indictment Has Illinois Hometown Sifting Memories

Discussion for article #236949

“…he was angry someone was accusing Hastert without even coming forward publicly.”

But if you “come forward publicly” they say you’re just out for publicity.

There seems to be no disagreement that Hastert “misbehaved.”

The real unanswered question here is, Where did School Teacher, Representative Denny get the $3.5 million to pay someone to keep their mouths shut? After all it is said that he had become a millionaire while serving in Congress, well before becoming a lobbyist.

“…he was angry someone was accusing Hastert without even coming forward…”

So this guy contends that Hastert was willing to give $3,000,000 to alleviate a private threat he could easily defeat everywhere on earth for free?

Nah.

No way was that even half the money he accumulated. I’d like to know just how much his haul was.

Of course his colleagues didn’t know. Pedophiles are very careful. They target kids who can be manipulated, kids with issues, kids without a father who love the attention from a man who is admired by the community. They don’t abuse the kids where others can find out. If something is said, they have plausible excuses for whatever someone thought they saw or heard. And most of us don’t want to believe it.

I worked in administration at a high school. We had a few cases over the years of inappropriate behavior by coaches (thank god none of them were teachers.) We acted quickly to protect the students and get rid of the coaches. Protecting the student was our number one priority. Luckily none of the incidents rose to the level of physical molestation, but one of the fired coaches showed up on the news a couple of years later in one of those on-line predator stings. We would have told anyone who called for a reference that he had been fired for inappropriate behavior, but no one ever asked. (He won a lot of games.)

It’s possible that he is a pedophile and a grifter.

Let’s see now, it’s obviously suspicious that a submissive high school kid didn’t step up to the plate and publicly challenge (he said… HE SAID) a highly respected authority figure… then or even later when that figure had become nationally known and gained a position of even greater power. The kid obviously wasn’t that stupid! Kudos to him for surviving… and then waiting until he stood a chance of influencing that figure to partially compensate him for what he must have gone through during and after those vulnerable school years. At this point he can hardly lose… he’s already gotten a chunk of the promised funds, and if they now dry up because the whole thing is public–well, the publicity that’s mopping the floor with Hastert right now must feel something like adequate schadenfreude to the victim.

“He said there was never a hint of wrongdoing and that he was angry someone was accusing Hastert without even coming forward publicly.”

How strange in the case of a child molester that this man is not outraged at Hastert not coming forward, but instead choosing to pay for silence. Despicable.

Exactly

Look at that picture of a young Hastert. He was a tough looking SOB. I wrestled in high school so I’ve seen cauliflower ears and smashed noses like that before… Hastert got them from pushing his training to the limit and then some. I am certain that Hastert was a very imposing figure.

“Before Dennis Hastert was U.S. House speaker and second in line to the president.”
Good lord read a civics book, he wasn’t 2nd, unless he was VP.

If you don’t think it can happen in your hometown, think again. My hometown discovered that last year.

It may be a bit too harsh to call him a pedophile, pedophiles are attracted to pre-pubescent children. A person attracted to a 17-year old is not a pedophile. He may transgress legal limits, and for a teacher-pupil relationship that is real bad, since he is ‘in loco parentis’ , and probably much older and experienced (in Denmark that could lead to a Rape-charge,even if the young person was above legal limits). I would, as a 17 year-old, have loved to bed my French-Teacher, a delicious 25-year old woman. If I had, she could have been in deep trouble.

Consider also the view from the Country of Homophobia: They have now ‘confirmation’ of several paranoias: “The Gays Have Infiltrated the Highest offices of Government”, “We had a Gay Manchurian Candidate in the line of succession”, “Gay is a life-style choice, Hastert choose to be straigth after a youthful digression (or entrapment by the Gays)” “Gay prey on minors”. Do we, btw, know the person was a minor ?

I think senator Graham will see his ratings drop in the 2016 Presidential Race, due to his perceived ‘gayness’, among his core constituents.

Not necessarily. As we saw with the Catholic Church, Jerry Sandusky, and Jimmy Savile, a lot of the time they rely the victims being too ashamed to come forward, and other people who only hear things secondhand or seeing “unusual” but not illegal things not being confident enough to do or say anything. Then when it finally comes out there are a lot of people saying “You know, I’d always heard…”

You’ll want to read this as a starting point:

Hastert made well over $12 million in three years (2004-2006) while serving as Speaker. What he made lobbying since then, plus all the other lucrative perks of riding the Republican Welfare Money Wagon, probably makes that pale in comparison.

He’s been a very busy little beaver raking in money through quite a number of organizations. It would not be surprising if he cleared $50 million by 2015.

Welcome to what it means to serve in the United States Congress. Beginning to understand just how much money is involved?

I stand corrected, thank you.

Remember Hastert married an English teacher at the school in 1973, half way through his tenure at the school. Did she know the student? Did she know her husband was a sexual predator?
