Gingrich has been out of office for 16 years. How much insiderism does he have, anyway? To say nothing of being one of the more unpleasant people around.
Maybe Trump is just looking for attack dogs. Both Gingrich and Christie fill that bill. But that would be redundant with Trump’s one skill.
I can’t imagine some of them would want to hinder their political future by associating with Trump; namely, Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN), Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC), Sen. John Thune (R-SD), and Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA). That leaves Christie and Gingrch who have no careers anymore and rather spotted past careers… Cotton (although sexually suspect, shall we say) might be interested. He seems pretty naive and Sen. Sessions has nothing to lose being associated with a racist campaign considering his past. (In fact, it might even help him in Alabama.) Gov. Faillin is not known to be very intelligent, but in Trump’s mind she might help him with women.
In reality, I can’t say that any of the 5 likely ones would pose a “game changing” choice and might actually hurt Trump marginally.
I thought his strengths as a candidate was that was NOT an insider to DC politics? Well anyone dumb enough to vote for a Orange Jeebus - Angry Little Attack Muffin ticket deserves what they get…
Who can Trump possibly pick as his running mate? His anti-establishment shtick rules out active and retired career politicians. His anti-intellectual shtick rules out professors and writers. His insecurity rules out highly charismatic and eloquent people. The logical choice is Sarah Palin, who only retired from half a political career, is no reader or writer or polished speaker, and whose charisma is limited to the type of people who fork over tens of thousands of dollars to learning the secrets to getting rich quick.
According to Gallup’s favorability ratings, Gingrich was 26% favorable 61% unfavorable in 2012, the last time they polled about him. If he’s Trump’s VP pick, I’m going to have to re-evaluate those completely ridiculous conspiracy theories about Trump being a secret Clinton operative because they’re honestly more credible than thinking Gingrich would help a Presidential ticket.
There’s a non-zero chance that Pumpkinhead will pick his running mate on the spur of the moment, in the middle of one of his incoherent rants. Vetting is for losers. He has beautiful huge thoughts.
