“very, very concerned”

So Grassley is going the full “Susan Collins”?

If anybody’s good at expressing concern it’s a republikkkan politician. They’ll soon act upon those concerns … Bwaaaaaaahahahahahahahahaha!!!

Actions speak louder than words, Mr. Grassley. If you’re that concerned you can do something.

Saying that a person was “the intellectual basis for what the president wants to accomplish in immigration” used to seem like a strong defense,
Now it is an indictment on that person’s human decency.

Is this Sen. Collins’ version of “concerned” ™ or actual concern?

Grassley and the rest have for two years been diligently earning the scorn he’s catching here. And I’ve been called cynical all my life so I’m not looking for any upwellings of civic virtue. But this is, nevertheless, a senior senator telling the president “don’t do this particular thing.” I don’t think he’s out there all alone with this. These guys read polls for a living, they don’t have the luxury of gerrymandered districts, they’ve got a certain institutional status they might remember feeling some pride about, and they want the public to know they’re capable of serving as a check on Trump because that’s what the public voted for last year. So I think this isn’t entirely empty.

“they are the intellectual basis for what the president wants to accomplish in immigration.”

Like this president has an intellectual basis for anything. Grassley’s in denial again.

And what type of action does “very, very, concerned’ merit?

A double sad face? Stomping your foot? Kicking the dirt?

All concern; no action. Or, as they say, all hat; no cattle. The Republicans certainly sling an awful lot of bull end product without a bovine in sight.

Grassley said he was “very, very concerned” about reports

and this his concern was so great he was prepared to do ‘fuck all’ as a response and if that didn’t get the White House’s attention then he would have no hesitation to follow it up with ‘nada, naught, nothing, and zilch’ which would really remind Herr Miller and his fellow Brownshirts that the Congress is a coequal branch of government and no one puts the Grassman in a corner.

I don’t disagree. Just want to note that if they don’t go onto Fox to say it, petulant pres is not likely to “hear” the message/warning.

He’s pulling the rug out from the very people that are trying to help him accomplish his goal.

So what’s the downside?

This is actually pretty hilarious. Trump, cunning grifter that he is, has figured out how to govern without the Congress. Only acting agency heads, so he doesn’t need to get anyone confirmed. If Congress tries to stop him legislatively, he just vetoes the legislation, since the Republicans in Congress have a demonstrated lack of the will to override. What remedy is left? Even if the House would impeach, the Senate wouldn’t convict. Forget the 25th Amendment - once again, the people who would need to act simply won’t.

“He’s pulling the rug out from the very people that are trying to help him accomplish his goal.”

Trump has a goal? Does causing chaos and hurting brown-skinned people really count?

Very, very Susan Collins.

To his base, it sure does. My point, exactly - Trump’s goals are appalling, so the tougher it is to achieve them, the better. In this administration, chaos is what protects the rest of us. That’s why Pence is scary - similarly awful aims, but he’d be much better at playing the system properly to get there.
