Discussion: Grassley On Trump Picking SCOTUS Nom: 'I Would Have To Admit It’s A Gamble'

Way to confirm that when the President is black, he only gets 3/5ths of a term.

It’s still low-risk for the Republicans. They don’t have to vote on anyone Trump might nominate, either. If they keep holding out until they get someone they like in the White House, we might eventually find ourselves with Supreme Court that has no members at all.

Someone will need to explain the basics to Trump. Yes it can be a women,or a minority. No it can’t be a goat, you know…the basics.

They’ve made obstruction completely normative. It’s like living with chronic political constipation.

Black vs White (Moron), it can be a tough call. But his gut says stick with the race.

I wish that once Clinton wraps up the nomination, she and Obama announce that if the Senate has not moved on this nomination by Labor day, Obama will withdraw his nominee and allow HRC to choose Scalia’s successor. After the conventions are over and Clinton leads Trump by 15+%, Grassley and the rest of the GOP shit heads will realize they have lost their gamble…

Trump looks back on history for ideas on government appointments: Now this Caligula guy nominated his horse. Why not?

"I would have to admit it’s a gamble,” he said. From the urban dictionary on absurd understatements - “No shit, Sherlock.”

Tell us something we don’t know. They said this in Jan. 2009.

Why is he even saying anything? He’s up for re-election this year, so should step down from his chairmanship and let the voters decide if he should do his job. That is, if he believes what he says about our president and is not just pulling a political stunt.

Grassley has already said the next President should fill the SCOTUS vacancy.
Calling it a gamble implies that there are options. Like, to not gamble.
And let Obama make his own nomination as required by the Constitution.

I really get this strategy, but my one concern is that Garland is such a good man, and a good judge (though I know many folks here want someone more progressive) … I hate that he’s just a pawn on a chess board.

It’s a gamble on who’s going to be the next president of the United States. I second-guess that. But I guess that’s a point that I’m willing to take.

It’s not about you, you prick, it’s about the American people, and they already chose Obama to nominate a justice.

Jerk.

“For people like me that want someone of a [Justice Antonin] Scalia variety to be on the Supreme Court or at least tending in that direction…”

And that’s the rub, right there. The heck with the Constitution, and who cares about that whole separation of powers nonsense, anyway… it’s all about the ideology, come hell or high water.

I’m surprised they’re not just coming out and saying “Conservatism now, conservatism tomorrow, conservatism forever!”

Watch how fast this clown moves to confirm Garland the week after Hillary is elected.
